Correct: she is an android, and the only central character who is a female android. There are a few glimpses of women of other cultures who are also women but all the main character androids are male.

SPOILERS: she gets her circuits (motor circuits?) ripped out by the Doctor at the end and freezes. But of course it's 1980s BBC Doctor Who budgets so don't expect much.
