I don't think Hollywood would ever go for non-Hollywood actors. At least the look: Tia Carrere. And Lucy Liu, but she's everywhere and this won't be good.

You referring to GitS Arise? I've seen the first three episodes (waiting for the final episode to come to Netflix). I've personally been enjoying it a lot. I've seen a lot of less favorable opinions expressed, but most of the associated criticisms are... a bit weak. A lot of people just seem butthurt that it isn't S.A.C, or that The Major's boobs are too small or something.

I'm of two minds about this.

On the one hand: ugh, seriously Hollywood? This is like that time you cast Charlize Theron as Imperator Furiosa and I spent two hours screaming "WHY DIDN'T YOU JUST HIRE AN ACTUAL AMPUTEE ACTRESS" at the screen. (They would have saved a TON on that CGI arm alone!)

On the other hand: Motoko is a cyborg with a fully prosthetic body. Theoretically she could look like any race she damn well wanted to, and really, who of us WOULDN'T choose a Scarlett Johansson robot body? (I'm looking at you, lonely Asian boy.)

So, yeah, it'll probably be a disappointing flop, but at least there's some sort of in-universe explanation for it.
