So, if anyone out there hasn't figured it out, I'm quite fascinated by the idea of animatronic walkaround characters at theme parks like Disney World (especially the princess-types*), but the stupid thing is I've been unable to find any sort of imagery of that kind on DeviantART or anywhere else. That being said, if anyone here has photos, drawings, renders or anything else of the kind depicting animatronic female characters in stages of repair, malfunctioning or even those cool cross-section technical diagrams, feel free to direct me towards them or upload them to the wiki.
And yes, there may very well be a story coming from me that focuses on this element.
* By "princess-types", I mean those that are of-age by the standards of this forum---just so we're all clear on that.

Interesting concept, as was mentioned earlier. This has the potential to be a good story, and Disney, if you're spying on our conversations here... It'd be a great idea to market them as the "Disney Dolls".

Well, of the female characters that have been represented in audio animatronic form in the Florida parks, the only ones that are "of-age" are Mary Poppins and Ripley from
Aliens (arguably Jane, but that's the Weismuller version, not the Disney one); officially, Ariel is 16 and Snow White is 14.

Fair enough. Anyone wanting to do a render of those two could easily provide a Plot-Relevant Age-Up, as the trope is called---and it's not like the walkarounds of Snow White and Ariel are played by people those ages, so hypothetical animatronic versions of them probably wouldn't look it, either....but thanks for the heads-up, King Snarf. I doff my hat to you.

The last time I went to Disney, they were being portrayed by adults, even if the actual age of the character was younger, so you could always say something about how they've been at the park for years and are old enough, or age them enough so they don't look too young. I had no idea how old Ariel or Snow White was. She's
14? That puts a whole new spin on her staying with seven little me doing the housework and stuff...
I think it's more on how they *look*, not their technical *age*.. every time I've either went or seen pictures from one of the theme parks, they all look rather adult, no matter how young they try to make them seem.
And thank you Mr. Snarf for the info; I seriously had no idea!

I just took a gander at this page:
http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Disney_Princess
According to it, down in the Trivia section, the only Disney Princesses who are currently 18 or over are Cinderella, Pocahontas, Tiana (The Princess and the Frog), and Repunzel (Tangled). The princesses in the upcoming film
Frozen are 18 (Anna) and 21 (Elsa).
And Princess Jasmine is 15 for most of the first Aladdin movie. I had to read that six times and I still don't believe it.

Right....Disney has some SERIOUS weirdness going on with character ages there.
Anywas, I reiterate---anyone looking to draw/render animatronic characters such as these should do their best to present them as of-age according to the forum rules. And it doesn't JUST have to be Disney princesses, either---the idea of any theme park using fully animatronic characters as walk-arounds is something that fascinates me greatly (within reasonable and forum-appropriate limits, of course).

Actually, the ages sound about right for the social/historical contexts of the characters, with some possible caveats since the settings are often vague and semi- or wholly fantastical.

And it certainly explains the... questionable behavior of some, like Ariel. Yes, she was stupid and reckless going to Ursula. 16 year olds do that. Similarly, Snow White's naivete and overly romantic notions don't seem so odd when you realize that she'd still be a middle schooler if this were set in the modern era.

......so the thread on animatronic characters got derailed by an age discussion just because I didn't want people thinking I'm insane.
Yay.
ANYway, as long as we're talking about that, anyone who feels like drawing/painting/rendering any characters in "repaired/malfunctioning animatronic" style would do well to keep them within the age limits as dictated by the forum rules---like I said, I'm willing to pursue this fascinating idea of mine as long as it's within acceptable limits (well, acceptable for this forum, at least).
Translation: Doesn't matter how old they are in their most popular incarnations. If you're going to animatronic-ize (if that's not already a word, it is now) a female Disney character (or ANY character, for that matter), be sure they look older than 18.
