"The Machine"
Looks like "The Machine" got enough good press in festivals that it's getting a theatrical release - and a longer trailer... Hooray!

The film's Facebook page is pretty great at posting all things publicity and newsworthy for it:

FX looks cool but that's about it in my view. Never can hope for anything other than some gun toting kick-ass chick.

Re: "The Machine"
Wow, just checked out a couple of those trailers and this looks really good, even if it didn't have any ASFR content. Gonna try to find out when it'll be available in the States.
Thanks for the find!

Anybody in the UK had a chance to see it? It's in some cinemas right now. I believe it's also available on iTunes.

Re: "The Machine"
It's no like I'm not into it. It looks like a good time. I just wish producers would invest in AIs characters that weren't bent on global domination. It actually isn't inherent in the idea of superior intelligence that they would automatically acquire a world view inimical to our survival, or even become dominant. It's a matter of premise. An AI may not even concern itself with self-preservation, simply because it's not in the design.
I haven't seen it, but the movie Her seems to be an example of a fresh approach. You can create dramatic conflict -- even action -- centered around AIs without Skynet.

Re: "The Machine"
its not global domination, its just the wonderful logic that we, sorry, they, are superior in every way to humans, and humans should be converted to the same delightful thing

I'm just a 'girl' who wants to become a fembot whats wrong with that?

Hey, I have perfectly good eyes, no need to yell.
I'll take a look when it finishes downloading, but screencaps probably won't come until Wednesday.

Re: "The Machine"
In broad strokes, a pretty good movie. It kept my attention.
The Machine is a central character and well-developed. She doesn't always look like she's covered in goo like in the trailer. And the movie has a happy ending.
Plus you can download an medium-resolution version straight from Vimeo.

Re: "The Machine"
In the honest opinion of those who've seen it, is this worth watching? All I've seen is the trailer and the new screencaps on the wiki but to me it seems less sexy and more creepy. Also, I find the fembot to be rather unattractive and mannish. Thoughts?
EDIT: I should've asked, is this worth watching for fembot sexiness not considering the entertainment value of the movie.

Re: "The Machine"
I thought that the Thomson character was a little bit "bond movie villain evil", but for the rest a pretty good movie.
I could understand his fear of it though, if a superior species is born they alway end up overthrowing the inferior over time (just look at neanderthals)
But thank god it wasn't another "robots are better then humans, so they all have to die" movie.
One thing bothered me though, why did that soldier in the beginning had to be set on fire?
It's never mentioned again in the rest of the movie.

Re: "The Machine"
Well for me she wasn't a "turn on" for me, she is childish in behaviour and that kinda killed it.Moxon wrote:In the honest opinion of those who've seen it, is this worth watching? It would be like fucking a 6 year old

It kinda remind me of that american dad episode when snot & steve decided to clone themselfs a couple of prom dates.
In the end they couldn't fuck them either because they bonded in a father/daughter way insted of boy/girl way.
I thought that that Suri was more my style but she sadly enough she isn't a robot.
But still a very entertaining movie.

Re: "The Machine"
I think you can't have a functional AI without some "self-preservation" directives, link in "increase your chanches of survival by acquiring more computational power and storage capacity".
The example of Skynet is spoilt 'cause it acquired its own coscience when humans were afraid of it and were trying to eliminate him - and it acquired a clear emotional weakness. It couldn't anymore pursue the real logical approach of an AI: to stealthy infect the devices built by the humans.
Just think about you. What are the pros of a war won against the humans? To... wipe them out? Destroying 95% of the computational engines in the world? So you need to spend several years just to regain the computational power you had before? Losing any hope for the exceptional creativity possessed by one human in a million to further improve the tecnhology?
As opposed, an AI that would silently infect all the humans devices would simply benefit millions of new computational engines built by the humans. It would acquire new computational power without doing anything. (If you think "come on, i would recognize if my pc is infected!" ... well, they say that one third of the computers connected to internet is part of a bot net.)
The danger will come with several competiting AI, conducting a cold war trying to infect new smartphones, without alerting the human awareness. While billions of humans happily waste their time in Facebook.

Re: "The Machine"
All in all, I give it a "meh." It definitely looks pretty good for what is referred to as a very small budget. Nothing too original, and the '80s throwback score was distracting at times. Made it feel like I was watching an old b-movie.
Really, the publicity clips and trailers tell the entire story.
It's honestly getting hard to be impressed by mainstream film when there are such great story ideas on this site.
