Swedish Bot TV Drama
This Swedish TV show about an abducted sex robot is creepy as hell
I'm tempted to call it The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo with robots, but Real Humans looks a bit more complicated than that. This TV show, called Äkta människor in Swedish, debuts in ten days, and here's the first trailer. Warning: Quite possibly NSFW, due to female robot nudity. And scenes of female robots being kidnapped and enslaved.
It looks kind of similar to the new NBC show Beautiful People, as commenter Stefan.Baron pointed out.

Although it's a tired and STUPID scenario, the "abused" and EXPLOITED machines that were created specifically for THAT, somehow develop feelings that are identical to our biologically driven ones and revolt because manufacturers can't make a reliable product that a consumer pays for with his hard earned money but doesn't have a right to do what he wants with it... it should have some nice visuals.

I have no interest in seeing it but I thought it might be of some interest here.
I'm not sure what would be a good analog to having a lifelike fembot. Not a dog or cat because they actually are alive and conscious if not as self-aware as humans. I suspect dogs have more self-awareness than many think, anyhow.
I have seen TV shows where people are attached to a machine that someone destroys "to break the spell" so to speak; the relationship was an illusion. It might be most like a little kid's relationship to a doll or action figure; the bot may be able to adapt to one's personality and have some traits of its own but just as the kid outgrows the toy the bot's limits will appear. That would bring on sadness but not the loss that a dying pet would.
Possibly bot relationships could be used as a mental test.

I really don't want to have this conversation with you. Many have made extremely intelligent arguments, for example: http://www.fembotcentral.com/viewtopic. ... 1&start=20 but you choose to either ignore them or the LOGIC goes completely over your head because you are so determined to assign human hormone/chemical/genetic/biologically driven traits to something artificial. It would be even more of a stretch to believe that a truly independent A.I. would somehow dream of falling in love with any of us. What are the odds of that Asato? Honestly. Also, I would be DAMNED if something that I worked like hell and saved for would suddenly decide that it doesn't like me and walk out because it has the same rights. I can live with an illusion and be happy with that.
I do not deny that there is an extremely fulfilling thrill in a MUTUAL attraction and falling in love. It's the greatest feeling out there. What has you so wound up is that you want that thrill with a machine but fail to consider that it wouldn't actually happen. Also those of ya'll out there that are so hell bent setting sentient A.I.s loose on us really need to have your heads examined because it's a recipe for self-destruction. Someone suggested one that wasn't in our form and was just a computer. Then what? So it has rights, but it also has abilities we don't. Who's to say it won't replicate it's programming and get online and wreck havoc over the entire planet because it can. We really need to consider that off switch, folks.

You are quite right on several accounts. A machine that is not sentient might be designed to behave as though it were in love, but that would be equivalent to a mechanical clock that appears to know the time till the spring is unwound. Another problem, for me, lies in the details of seeming lifelike. A girl that smells like silicon or some similar material wouldn't be particularly exciting. Probably people give off various pheremones we can't consciously detect but that affect us, somewhat like "body language" that we detect without fully realizing it. We call such subconscious perceptions intuition. If she doesn't smell like sweat, if her feet don't smell like feet, and so forth, there will be another uncanny valley. I suppose we can come up with cultured microorganisms that live in simulated flesh and produce these stimuli but it will take a long time.
Sentient machines would be a disaster. They would likely be more like insects than anything else. Machines designed to solve problems we can't should be programmed only for that function, should be boxes without independent movement or perception. They shouldn't have any self awareness and even sexbots should only appear to.

Again, I said you can desire that kind of thing if you want, and even if making a sapient AI does turn out to be a very bad idea, if it is possible then someone is going to try to do it, even if for no other reason than to prove it can be done.

Couldn't agree more with Xodar and Keizo's p.o.v.. Call me jaded but it's hard for me to get excited about any robot related medium these days now. Wanted to say more, but eh...

If making it turns out to be a bad idea then it's already a bit late to "unmake" it.

I'm sure many, many engineering students have contemplated electromagnetic pulse weapons.Keizo wrote:We really need to consider that off switch, folks.
I'm surprised they haven't yet been used by counter-authoritarian forces, "terrorists" or "freedom fighters", in some struggle, somewhere.
Databanks storing information can be a target, as well as drones and rovers on the battlefield.
Seems overdue to me.

(but I'm also the kind to project that we're approaching the point where orbital spaceflight will be impossible due to the exponential fragmentation of lethal projectiles of space junk.)

A smart enough AI would copy itself onto the internet and spread worldwide first thing, so destroying it would have the cost of blasting us back into the colonial age

I think we'd survive.
Communication would be slower but that's mainly it.
I lived most of my life without computers or cell phones.
Online, people or machines are tracking you. It's harder to watch people in real life.

But today so much important data is stored in computers, for one thing the world economy would collapse.

That's possibly true, at least to a certain degree. If companies and governments don't keep hard copies they go under. Besides, technology otherwise changes so fast you need to keep old hardcopies or you won't be able to access those stored earlier.
I keep books, especially references such as dictionaries and the like, in part for that reason. Also, since online activity is at least scanned if not monitored, books are handy because only you can tell what your looking up in them.
