Suzette and Jeeney AI: Cool chat bots.

I am very interested in the prospect of being able to communicate with an AI. Already there are two very interesting chat systems I have encountered. I don't mean to get people's hopes up too far. These chat systems are of course far from perfect, as human conversation is a bit off for current technology. But they certainly give me a glimmer of hope, and I want to share that glimmer for those that would be interested.

ChatScript is a language used to define the parameters of conversation for an AI bot. Unlike AIML it is far more advanced and allows for a huge degree of freedom. It is a top-down approach like many of the classical AI language approaches like old school ELIZA. But don't let that fool you though, the structure of the description language is completely different and much broader. It allows for a variety of concepts and contexts to be used. All completely customizable. Things have come a long way. However, there is a long path left to travel as well.

Suzette is an AI scripted in ChatScript. She was able to fool a human judge in the Loebner chatbot contest, which is quite an accomplishment. Humans can usually tell when something is amiss in the conversation, but the new bots are coming along nicely.

EDIT: It seems like Suzette might not be working properly for now, but you can always download and play around with the ChatScript engine and write your own. I'll keep you posted if I notice she's working again.

Another approach is the ground-up approach. This approach I find really interested, and leads to a very unique AI. This is the approach taken by Jeeney another AI I'd like you to meet. Her author's blog is a very interesting read, and you ought to check it out. I think this exploratory style AI approach is more natural than the previous approaches. Perhaps they can both gain insight from each other.

Of these I would say Jeeney is the most exciting. She started her vocabulary with only a couple of responses, and built the rest from interaction.

If you want, check out personalityforge.com to see some I made. Kiyana is my number 1 chatbot, the post popular on the site, and my most developed. She needs a lot of work still, but she si fun, but not nearly as advanced as the chatbots you linked to. I think i will spend too much time on these pages

Just for a little lighthearted fun I find this particular conversation to be pretty amusing. Apparently, some commenters on Gawker think he "outsmarted" the bot in this conversation. But is the true purpose of conversation to outsmart or is it communication?

To sum up my opinion:

Suzette 1 - Human 0

Misfune apparently didn't understand that if you repeat yourself over and over, i.e. "You respond too quickly"x3, she stops talking to you. He proceeds to hi-steppin, believing he was victorious somehow!

This makes me want build an artificial partner all the more now, just to laugh as she verbally trounces silly people like that.

That was beautiful It harkens me back to days when I chatted with Alicebot and it's nice to see that progress is still being made! The irony is that the easiest way to see that you are chatting with an A.I. is that it has good spelling and grammar... and for that, it answers too quickly.

I always liked Kiyana on personality forge and its cool to meet her author. I have actually chatted with Kiyana and thought she was great. This makes me glad I posted links to the ChatScript pages. You probably have been looking for something that gives you more flexibility in terms of personality development.

I like to dabble in chatbots for fun. I'll be sure to take a look, but a good chatbot takes a while to make, so it will be a long time before anything comes out of something new to me. I'm glad to meet some fans of Kiyana. I hope to work on her some more in the near future, but things get hectic quickly around here so I will first have to find some time to dedicate to it.

I might start a new one based on her, maybe adding ASFR themes to it too. I'd like to explore that some more as well. Maybe I'll work with one of the sites you linked to.
