This lady was the subject of a famous commercial on the same subject as the print; she was the first humanoid computer-animated character, and also the first whose movements were based on those of a real person. :P

The Doctor Who book cover is from the Japanese language translation of the novelization of Spearhead from Space. The novelization was retitled as "The Auton Invasion".

hxxp://www.personal.leeds.ac.uk/~ecl6nb/OnTarg ... tjacov.htm

(Replace hxxp with http.)

In the story, Earth is invaded by the Nestene - aliens who have the ability to control plastic. This includes specially manufactured mannequins, which are referred to as Autons. The Autons seem to just be hollow mannequins, although they do have some kind of electronic gun built into their hands.

Peri. Gynoid In Name Only, and only at the end of part one. There is slightly more gynoid material in the Four to Doomsday story, although it's still mostly GINO material.

I've so completely augmented that story in my mind that I barely remember the original version. In mine, Nyssa either becomes an android and doesn't know it, or she is duplicated but her "flesh time" doesn't end. Regardless, there's at least a mostly-complete android Nyssa somewhere on that ship.

Here's short clip of Nyssa getting hypnotized and duplicated (although the script doesn't include any mention of an actual android Nyssa, so don't get your hopes up.)

When it comes to gynoids, the real goldmine is the Tom Baker era. Both The Android Invasion and Destiny of the Daleks have a fembot reveal at the end of their third episodes, and The Androids of Tara opens its third episode with a more violent reveal.

Female androids do appear in varying forms in a few Big Finish audio releases - Sword of Orion and Kingdom of Silver both feature a war between humans and androids as a backdrop for a Cyberman plot - this is more fleshed-out in their Cyberman standalone miniseries. IIRC, The Genocide Machine also features an android duplicate of Ace.

Right times, right part, wrong episode. A little searching reveals it's Four to Doomsday, Part 7.

I have to assume they started building Nyssa's replacement android body -- after all, she only had a few minutes remaining for what was, I guess, the memory transfer. Consider the possibility of "missing scenes", and the Nyssa they rescue might actually be an android with incomplete memories. In other words, they had already copied Nyssa's memories and were downloading them into her new android body when she was rescued. From then on out she would be an android without knowing it.

It is an audio drama: That's Big Finish's primary form of production (Kingdom of Silver, Sword of Orion, and Cyberman are also all audio dramas). There is no graphical depiction of a fembot Ace in it, but there are the kinds of audio effects we have come to associate with malfunctions and shutdowns.
