Good news re: Dollhouse?

Post by 33cl33 » Fri Nov 13, 2009 11:34 am

Summer Glau is joining the cast of Dollhouse as of this episode, slated to air on December 4th:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1518945/

And I read in an article on Wired, I think, that she's playing a robot-for-hire (and it sounds like they do mean robot, not a doll in the show's sense). Sounds promising, seeing how vague they're trying to be about her character...

Possibly good news for those of us sad that TSCC didn't make it?

It's not quite good news anymore: The show's been cancelled. Am I the only one who thinks that Fox hates Joss Whedon?

That's no secret. You think with how popular Buffy was Fox would be willing to give Joss more attention. Frankly, if I was Joss I would look for another network, and if I can't find one, just stick to comics and the Internet. (If Dr. Horrible was aired on Fox, it would cut to a commercial after Act One and then cut to a baseball game.)

There WILL be MORE DR. HORRIBLE! --SONGS ARE WRITTEN... now everyone's just gotta be available at the same time to DO the bit. Honestly, for a strange reason, I'd like to see Joss tackle a tv series based on BUCKAROO BANZAI. -------OH WAIT.... that's A FOX property.... nevermind.

FOX proves it really SUCKS!!!

Post by jknight_2000 » Fri Nov 13, 2009 11:12 pm

Let's be honest between FOX news wanting to remove all links to its site from public search engines, and the cancellation of DollHouse, the execs are complete  MORONS  . And the fact that they took a good vision in the Sarah Connor Chronicles and turned it into total incomprehensible dreck is truly awe inspiring (it takes some powerful stupid to ruin a hit franchise.) But do not fear like everything else, it will probably be picked by the SyFy Channel in syndication and given the respect it deserves.

Executives get to become executives in this business by having a sliver of talent, but mostly because of "who they know"...and the fact that they have to be "yes men" and "yes women"...TOADIES WHO FOLLOW HIGHER UPS BLINDLY... making decisions based on what worked LAST MONTH. IT AIN'T SKILL REALLY.... IT'S ALL LUCK, and they don't want to tell anyone that. Example..... FRINGE is popular........what does it have? -- HOT DIRECTOR'S NAME ON IT, and it's an amalgam of WHAT WORKED BEFORE... X-Files, CSI, etc....Main hero was on another show that people loved....instant recognition for cornfed America, and therefor.........executives think 'INSTANT HIT" .....WHAT DID DOLLHOUSE HAVE? --HOT NAME ATTACHED, HACKTRESS FROM FAMILIAR SERIES in the past for recognition for cornfed America... and action taken from other shows........ Soon, you will probably see a show about VAMPIRES, and an ELITE ROBOT FORCE created to find and kill them.................see...taking trends, what worked before........... I'm an executive now...!!! --------- I can see it.........FOX, HERE'S YOUR NEXT HIT SHOW! -------- TIFFANY AMBER THEISSEN IS.............THE LEADER OF THE 'MID-KNIGHTS" --------she'll kick vampire/zombie ASS! ---AND WHILE I'M AT IT...... taking advantage of my TV EXECUTIVE stature for the moment..... FELLOW EXECUTIVES.....TAKE NOTE THAT THE WORDS 'BRIAN AUSTIN GREEN" and 'ACTION STAR" are NOT MEANT TO BE MIXED .... if you have a show that features a robot actress who kicks ass for an hour......YOU DON'T FOCUS ON 50 MINUTES OF TALKING HEADS with BRIAN AUSTIN GREEN..........I DON'T CARE IF HE WAS ON A FORMER FOX SHOW................FOCUS ON WHAT THE SCI FI VIEWERS WANT TO SEE! -- MY WORK IS DONE HERE.... time to take a meeting, and get a Mocha- crappachino-Latte at the Fox Commisary....all on Rupert. he's buying. ...Let's do LUNCH, PEOPLE! -- minkwheel.tv executive.

I could swear I heard about a month ago that Dollhouse was coming back this season. Is the cancellation news more recent?

Yes... just this week. The series was ALWAYS 'on the fence" as they say, and it just didn't gain any momentum as the weeks went by, so Fox will show the remaining shows, and put their toys away.

Figuring that with something as immortal and immoral as vampires and or zombies, you'd need someone or a group who are powerful, tireless, and totally upgradable due to the unpredictable nature of those pesky vamps and zombies........ MID-KNIGHTS.......get me TIFFANY AMBER'S AGENT ON THE BLOWER........I'VE GOT A PITCH PARTY TO GET TO.... well.... if anything, I can stick this idea in an A-MEN story once I get around to starting any. I actually have to THANK "THE VAMPIRE DIARIES" this year..... I have a board game coming out after February based on the show. Happy me. --minkwheel

CAPITALISM AND COMMERCIALISM

Post by jknight_2000 » Sun Nov 15, 2009 12:02 am

It's good to hear from you minkwheel, but your only partially about TV execs and upwardly position movement. IT ALSO TAKES SOME LUCK, just like in poker, it is when you arrive and the current situation and market that dictates success. And that's what doomed DOLLHOUSE. JOSS WHEDON was the man in the early aughts (2000-2004), which shows like Charmed, Buffy, and Angel. If this series had come out in 2006 it would have been successful. But it came out in 2008, to a group AMERICAN IDOL zombies, and basically it failed. You ever wondered why 24 has only been shown in one timeslot while other shows on FOX, move constantly. Because the execs figured out the secret to dominate the Neilsen ratings.

BAD IDEA + ZOMBIED VIEWING PUBLIC + HOT STAR + SOLID TIME SLOT = HUGE RATINGS.

That is the basis of the following two theories, I been bouncing around/

Science Fiction, no matter how big the budget will never be successful on network TV.

And secondly, most remakes totally pale in comparision to the original work. You cannot create the original conditions, that created the original hit.

If you don't believe. I am going to post a simple question to the board in a separate post, which is better the original Stepford Wives movie or the remake in early 2000's

Shame on Joss Whedon!: He was "greedy" for chasing

Post by tmc_6882 » Sun Nov 15, 2009 12:12 am

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/co ... 02192.html

Lisa de Moraes argues that "Dollhouse" could've lived if Whedon didn't chase the big money of network TV and settled for cable, where he'd be more successful. "Joss Whedon gets nothing BUT breaks," she says in an online chat. "This show never should have been picked up in the first place. Then it never should have been picked up for a second season. He's the luckiest guy working in TV today. Period. Like I said, he has a very loyal, but small, fanbase and had he not gotten greedy and gone for the Big Broadcast Bucks, this show might have survived and flourished on a cable network. Joss Whedon needs to think more about his fans and less about his wallet. If he did, he would do his work for a cable network which can sustain a show that attracts this sized audience. He did not serve you well. Shame on him."

I BELIEVE, jknight...I BELIEVE! -- a lot of my posts are sarcastic points, but points that .....POINT to the TRUTH for the most part. A NETWORK bucks on trends and things that America has found FAMILIAR so that it may lure them in to watch shows for ad dollars. JOSS WOULD BE A CORNERSTONE on SYFY ----God, I HATE writing the fake word SYFY.......if they would give him an anthology series, even a HALF HOUR so he can do WHATEVER he thought was cool....the money and fans would be there...Cable gets a double whammy with money... subscriber money, and advert dollars...they don't have to produce 22 shows. There are boatloads of specific audience networks now, and cable viewers have scads of choices... the ratings are stretched thinner. REALITY SHOWS came into being mostly on a BUDGETARY ISSUE... they were cheaper to make, and fill precious time. Ratings are slipping because there are simply so many reality shows that viewership is slipping as well. SCHEDULING is another thing that an exec has to worry about...but it's also formulaic to a fault.... certain shows are placed at certain points due to WHAT WORKED BEFORE....24 stays where it is, because it holds it's audience, and a new show is placed after that so that Fox can spring new shows onto the network for a best possible chance of getting 24's audience to accept a new offering... SUNDAY has also become SETH MacFARLANE night...the man makes a SEVEN FIGURE SALARY......I'm not knocking him, because I'm a cartoonist also...MORE power to him..... but his shows will be the ones that Fox will use to bump up shows they have in development (no, not Family Guy spinoffs... OTHER shows from other creators....and that's risky......but you NEED diversity) Your point about remakes is pretty much dead on, there ARE exceptions to the rule though ... MASH, STARGATE, --but the list is short. --minkwheel

BAH! Now I don't care about the show anymore! Total Let down!
I never bothered and never will because of the revelation above.
When it come to fembots things often get to be too political for me.
