Forbidden Science (New Show on MAX)
Here is the link for the trailer.

After seeing the trailer, and doing a little research -- it seems the show will feature cornucorpia of sci-fi genre including a few featured androids and clones (female and unfortunately male ones too). I will keep my ears open for some more information on the series as HBO/Cinemax releases more data.

Yup.
Dude... if that thing turns out to be just as the chief exec. describes it in this article...well, it might just melt your willy.andoroido wrote:Saw a blurb somewhere recently that Showtime is going to come out with some series about replicants or something. Anyone?

I've read on other places (namely "io9") that it's being marketed as a competitor to the yet to be released "Dollhouse" from Joss Whedon (a series about mindwiped and programmed humans used for ethically questionable tasks), the main different between the two being that the "Syns" are totally "synthetic"- Exactly how "synthetic" they are, I have no idea, but there's a good chance they might take the Cylon route and make them "bio-synthetic"... or not...
Cross your fingers. Hard.

Well, that could be easily explained:Kishin wrote:Its really wonderful that TV and Cable have been embracing the fembots and cyborgs lately.
Such a nice change of pace from the genetic crap they were raving about for the last few years.
TV and film might be at a point where it needs more fantastical premises for it's more "science-fictiony" Sci-Fi shows... Things that seem further down the pipeline than cloning or genetic manipulation, which, compared to lifelike androids, seems to be just around the corner.
Take Knight Rider, for example. In the eighties, the concept of a talking sports car was rather mind blowing. Now? Almost every new car with a GPS navigator or OnStar system doesn't just talk to you, it can do so in a sexier voice than Mr. Feeny's.
Cybernetic Limbs, Cloning (of any kind), gene manipulation and Virtual Reality? We've already got that (in Beta!)
Androids that look indistinguishable from humans? That's on the "new trends" shelf, along with full body Cyborgs, Radical Life Extension and Giant Robots.
Besides, if there are two things that studio executives think that can sell a show, regardless of the quality of it's writing, are F/X and sex. In order to have the F/X, you need to have a premise that needs it's use, such as androids. And androids lend themselves well to sexual themes in mainstream media... so, there.

Mainstream Hype + Competition between studios + Cable networks with money + advances in technology = Happiness.
Let's be honest, the stories featured on this site are becoming more of a reality than even most of us thought. Admitally most of us believed lifelike android companionship wouldn't be feasible until at least 2020, and with the hype all forms of media are looking to cash in. If it gives us some Sci-fi that fits are needs and is decent, I say we should praise it (if it's good.)
Also, on a separate front two facts, I can post with confidence.
1) There will be a Ghost in the Shell (Live Action Movie) made in the states (Out by 2012/2013). Will be very interesting, who will be selected to play the "Major".
2) The AstroBoy movie will lead other studios to remake classic sci-fi series and take them seriously! (The Day The Earth Stood Still is an absolute disgrace, a tour-de-farce, or as some of the upper espilon would say, "A slagging-smoking-heaping pile of crap.")
