August Story Competition Winner!

Post by Android675 » Mon Sep 01, 2008 9:19 am

And the winner is....

Botfriend 2000 for his story "The Job Interview!"

I know the story wasn't technically "new," but since he completed it in the month of August, it qualifies.

I enjoyed the premise - the idea of a robot not knowing she's a robot has always been a favorite of mine. The frequent malfunctions didn't hurt, either!

So, congratulations to botfriend! (I've sent you a pm so we can figure out payment).

Also, thanks again to wjbaines for finishing Darsi, Bruce and Natalie - I've sent you a pm, too, so we can figure out payment.

Botfriend's story was great, but after reading it I realized that there's still a lot of unexplored territory revolving around the "woman not realizing she's a fembot" idea. While many stories have used that as a theme, there are very few that take the next step of the woman/fembot becoming thoroughly aware of the fact that she's a robot, and having to deal with that fact, and either ultimately accepting it or continuously struggling with it.

It seems like many stories that involve the woman "discovering" she's a robot end with her discovering it and then quickly malfunctioning and shutting down - but that moment could be the jumping off point for some rich and relatively unexplored material. After she realizes she's a robot, she has to come to terms with the fact she can be programmed, and isn't sure what thoughts and feelings are hers and which are just her program. She can deal with the fact that she sometimes feels trapped in her own body as her program takes over and she moves/speaks robotically, and perhaps she can even experiment with her own robotic nature by secretly adjusting her programming or circuitry. Maybe she's one of many similar models, and has a hard time with being just one of many. Being serviced is hard for her, since it reminds her even more of her robotic nature... and yet, she's secretly aroused by the fact she's a robot but doesn't want to admit it to herself.

Just a few thoughts - if this inspires anyone to take a crack at writing something in this vein, so much the better!
