Fembot/Cyborg action videos: Give me your suggestions
Hey everyone--Eyebore told me about this cool forum, so I thought I'd join and introduce myself.
My name is Alex Bettinger, and I produce the videos at sites such as HawkHeroines.com and SlayerParis.com I have always had a fascination with the fembot/cyborg theme, and I am seriously considering starting a site featuring the theme.
Perhaps I will start out with just a single video, and see how well it sells.
So I'd be very interested to know what themes you guys are most interested, since there are really so many different ways to go.
There are at least three general areas I'd like to hear suggestions on.
First, what kind of fembots are most interesting? For example, (1) girls that are 100% robots, who behave wholly robotically; (2) "cyborgs" that look and act like normal women, but have lots of mechanical parts; (3) Japanese ultra man type cyborgs; (4) robots/cyborgs that behave normally most of the time but just every now and then give a sign or twitch that suggests their robotic nature. Or is there some other kind of fembot that is best?
Second, what kind of situations do you want to see the fembots in? Most of my sites involve action, catfights, and some kind of peril (often with some more or less subtle sexual themes). I think this would be cool for fembots, since we could show "damage" by showing exposed circuitry, etc. But perhaps people have suggestions for some wholly different kind of scenario?
Third, I'd love to hear any suggestions or tips about how to portray fembots--like tips for props for representing a "damaged" fembot, or tips for how to convey their robotic nature, etc.
So please feel free to give me any and all suggestions!! Thanks!

Cool! You've even got effects! I'll probably have to PM you with some suggestions, but I just wanted to say that it's really amazing that others are showing interest in our community. Perhaps the moderators might even consider making another section to the forum for directors and video producers?
Honestly, it looks like it's time for another poll so that the majority of our tastes could be assessed. Personally I like your choice number 1 in fembots although I also like some of 4 if their "human nature" is because of programming and not actually HUMAN nature. Seriously, if the girl is going to act like a girl and be affected like one that defeats the purpose of the fetish!
Anyway, I'm really happy to see our tastes being considered. Thanks!

Welcome to FC, Alex! Always glad to see new filmmakers stop by and poll the audience. Slayer Paris, from what I've seen, is really fantastic, and I hope to see work of similar quality on the robot product.
What I'd like to see out of the videos is maybe a bit unconventional from the usual, but I think they would work in a movie context. I love the idea of a robot designed to replace a human girl, especially if they confront each other. The robot who has no idea what she is until confronted with evidence is really hot as well, as is any changing of a robot while she's still active. If one of the girls peers into her own open panel, or has her memory wiped while she desperately fights against it, then you've got me sold. That goes double for your slayer, because Paris is mega-hot.
I'm really just glad that we have artists coming here and taking our suggestions. It's going to make good product, and hopefully good business for all of us.

General themes and some of my own
Hey Alex glad you made it. I warn you in advance this is a lengthy and poorly edited post. I hope it will be helpful to some degree.
I think you'll find preferences vary, while we all like the girls to physically appear human for the most part, we are drawn to anything that breaks the illusion. It can be subtle like ODD BEHAVIOR (she seems unemotional, overly ditsy, subservient and cheerful, like a Stepord wife) or Physical signs such as twitching and mechanical movement, visible ciruitry. Anyway I wrote down some common themes that are not intended to be formulas for a script as everyone has a slightly different take on the subject, but just a list of some of the more common themes as I see them, plus a few possibly unique to myself.
ROBOTIC SPEECH (She seems to lack ample inflection, maybe even sound monotone, Speech is too proper and devoid of slang. She may stutter, repeat/loop words and phrases. She may pause too long before responding to a question, Mix up the structure and order of the words in a sentence that is too jumbled to be comprehended. Get off topic and respond too a question asked two minutes earlier in the conversation ect. Her dialog may refer to her true nature as a robot I am not programmed for this activity. I am malfunctioning ect. Or it way actually resemble a error message you'd expect to see on you're computer for example "Warning System error, temperature Critical, Insufficient memory ect."
ROBOTIC MOVEMENT.... (Movement may not seem a fluid as it should be. seeming to deliberate. The movement may even seem stiff and jerky. Posture may seem overly rigid and posed. Actions that normally require one fluid motion are broken into small jerky increments. The upper body often seems to move independently of the lower body. Movements often come to an abrupt stop, causing the upper body to wobble back and forth ever so slightly like a passenger in car that hit the breaks to hard.
WALKING......As in the case of walking each step is deliberate, ending abruptly causing the upper body to wobble a bit back and forth with a sight pause before the the other foot resumes the stride. The walk can be more seductive, with each long step, one foot crosses in front of the opposite leg. As the right foot hits the ground, the leftt hip drops and the right hip is thrust out to the side coming to an abrupt stop holding the position for a second before repeating the process leading with the left leg. Its all about the pop in the hip. I hate to admit it but the best example I can give is a Bugs Bunny cartoon , where bugs orders a sexy robot bunny for some type of shenanigans.
With legs stiffly locked and arms extended to the sides the torso may suddenly drop forward coming to an abrupt stop, causing it the upper body to bounce up and down ever so slightly like as if her torso is suspended from the ceiling by springs. The Girl may then straiten back up in two or three small jerky increments.
Instead of raising the feet to turn her lower body the momentum of turning or jerking the torso and hips spins the girl around as shee rotates on the balls of her feet.
The head may cock or tilt to one side, some times immediately returning to its original position, other times remaining for a moment. It may turn in small jerky increments like an automatic sprinkler head. The eyes may appear to be bugging out and opened extremely too wide and staring off into space. They may be unblinking for uncommonly long periods, or there may be moments when they blink in rapid succession . They may even cross and roll back into the head. There may be a shocked. surprised or concerned expression the robots face during a malfunction. Other times the expression is totally blank or Overly cheerful and pleasant with an exaggerated smile.
The girl may appear off-balance clumsy, even spastic. stumbling backward and forward in a futile attempt to regain her balance. She may seem unaware of her surroundings bumping into and bouncing off of walls and furniture only to repeat the action over and over. Some members even like to see the arms flail uncontrollably. She may fall to her knees and stiffly topple to one side. She may lay on her back twitching and thrashing
CONTROL...l_ Some are drawn to the fact that a robot is often forced to do what ever it is programmed to do. Some have also have written stories in which the robot was reprogrammed against her will or controlled with a remote control devise. There a few hypnosis sites that dabble with the crossover.
FREEZES AND SHUTDOWNS__The robot may malfunction, be deactivated by remote control, run out of power and become and become Immobilized or frozen in mid pose. Some people are partial shut downs in which the robot powers down and bends at the waist with her arms dangling towards the floor. I've seen this done and suggest if is requested that you have the girl turn her head to the side so that her face is still visible, I always prefer tos look at a pretty face than hair hiding one.
MALFUNCTIONS_The malfunction, for me and I dare say for most of the members is a major part of the fetish. Probably because it is the ultimate betrayal or the girls true nature and often incorporates nearly every other theme, robotic Movement, Robotic speech, Robotic Dialog, abnormal behavoir, exposed circuits. ect. They may vary in intensity from a minor head twitch and occasional stutter, to a culmination of nearly everthing I mentioned and more
While I probably cast the widest net around here and am drawn to many aspects of the fetish, I also have a fascination with concept of a split personality between a Human persona and the unfeeling computer.
I like to see the android transition back and forth between a woman that could easily pass for human, into a robot that is utterly mechanical. I want to see her personality struggle to maintain the illusion of humanity, but inevitably fail and be consumed by the computer within. Maybe she attempts to over ride her programming, only to have computer resume control and stop her. During a malfunction, I like to see a gradual disintegration of the Human Persona’s ability maintain its dominance over the Unemotional computer. Her Personality will struggle back to the surface, as she illogically searches for away to escape an inescapable situation. Unable to accept her fate She tries to repair her failing systems, The indifferent computer takes over and simply reports the damage and announces the inevitable out come without concern or emotion. I think it would work well voice to change back and forth from one filled with concern and inflection, to a monotone robotic.
I think it could be possible in productions with multiple actresses to have some girls behave more mechanical than others. A girl might get reprogrammed, or damaged, thus altering her behavoir. There are alot of ways to cater to different peoples taste, but noway to cater the everyones, so just do the best you can.
This post was meant to introduce you to some of the themes and is not meant to be a formula, as I'm sure many members have a different interpretation of what constitutes the ideal robot video.
As for the rest of you guys and gals,I hope to see script ideas flooding into the storyboard, and some real collaborating taking place. We have a unique opportunity to have real input regarding content. If you haven't visited Alex's site please do so, you will realize that the production quality exceeds what we have become accustomed over the years.

Hey there Alex, and welcome.
Seems like there's more and more happening on the film front for ASFR!
For me, it has to be number 4 (100% robotic and at first seemingly human).
I'm a huge fan of malfunctions, but I also prefer it when the fembot's robotic nature is revealed just in ordinary social interaction. If there is some oversight in the fembot's design or programming that lets people know she's not what she seems, that's the icing on the cake.
I'm not keen on physical damage, unless it's inflicted by the fembot herself, and then only in a superficial 'sparks and fuse popping' kind of way.
And I'm not sure if I'm in the minority here, but I prefer the fembot to be non-aware. If she's programmed to seem human (but doesn't manage it very well), the tension of the fembot continuing with its programming, once revealed as a machine, is very attractive.
But probably more broadly important to people here is the way the fembot moves. I think eyebore has given a good detailed description of it - I'll have my try too...
For moving robotically I think the actress should think about which joints are moving. It's probably most effective if only one joint is moving at a time. For instance, if the fembot leans forward mechanically, only the waist tips forward - all other joints seem 'locked off'.
And to simulate how a machine moves, at the start of any movement a very tiny 'jerk' in the opposite direction to the movement makes it seem more 'hydraulic'.
If each movement is even in speed, that helps too.
And finally, when a movement stops, small mechanical 'bounces' are a give-away that she's not what she seems.
Well, I hope that's helpful...

Hey Alex sorry to ramble on but I forgot to mention exposed circuitry and special FX. Nobody expects something from Industrial Light and Magic, but it does look like you guys have had some fun working with effects and makeup in the past. Open panels and tears in synthetic skin that allow wires and circuitry to be seen are a really nice touch, but it may take some creativity to pull of the illusion. Repair scenes have been a favorite theme and like fight scenes offer a great opportunity show malfunctions and exposed circuitry. For obvious reasons they may directly follow a fight scene. As robotman mentioned plastic mannequin breast forms with panels cut into them have been used in the past, even wires sticking out through torn clothing can ad to the illusion. I've seen scenes where the actress obviously took a puff off a cigarette before the camera cut to her. Shes lays on the ground, staring blankly at the ceiling while smoke escapes from her open mouth as though she has overheated or had some sort of internal meltdown. Sound effects can do wonders especially when done well. We have a member who goes by the user name fection, that can better instruct you when and how to best incorporate those. In fact I recommend checking out his animations on youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0T4jARiVDpI
Apparently Fection just posted a message while I was writing this so I so my recommendation is probably unnecessary
Thats it, I promise I'm done. I'll leave it to the other members to mention anything I missed.

just my opinions
Hey Alex.
Wow, it seems the other guys covered almost everything already.
I don't know if this thread is an accumulation of ideas or something like a poll, so I will act like it's the latter and give you my two cents. Of course, some of the things I say would overlap with what the others have said.
Well, for me, I love reprogramming. You know, good girl turns bad, bad girls turns good, normal girl/hoursewife/damsel-in-distress suddenly turns on the heroine/hero and beat the crap out of her, repair and modifies a damaged sentry robot girl who previously belongs to a supervillain use her for the forces of good. Also, when the fembot's secret is revealed, what would others do? do they take advantage of the situation (reprogram/shut down/freeze etc)?
Also, remote control/voice control of some kind. Sudden change in modes to cause the girl to suddenly do something against her will, etc. Personally, I like robots who behave like normal humans most of the time but have different modes to switch between intentionally/unintentionally.
As for costumes, I think both normal clothing and metallic-colored/shiny spandex/jumpsuit/leotard/bikini works. But they are also great to indicate the change in the character/robot or the situation. (E.g. a robot enters into combat mode, she turns robotic and change into shiny tight clothing (or her normal clothing got destroyed in the fight and reveals robot cloth); when the robot girl enters into robot mode on command and dress according to her master's tastes.
Oh, and yes, fighting scenes would be great. I mean, who doesn't love superpowered punches, kicks, machine guns, laser, sword etc etc. =]
And of course, I love plot twists. Throw us somethings unexpected. Childhood friend/girlfriend/neighbor/someone from work suddenly turns out to be a robot, etc etc.
That's about all my rambling. Hope it helped... and hope some of it was original. lol
Anyways, look forward to seeing your masterpieces. ^^

Sorry I haven't sent a PM yet, but I'm going to say a couple of quick things here. Eyebore and Fection made some very good points especially about the fembot acting. Keeping up a completely mechanical performance can be very difficult, but it's also important for "quirks" to constantly betray the woman's nature as a machine. 100% machine. If I am going to PAY MONEY, I don't want what I can get anywhere else and just have her say "I am a robot" and that is about as much robot action as we get. I don't want a woman that's going to act totally human or have a sassy attitude if she's a robot (unless it's a program that causes a malfunction). I really hate it when a fembot "becomes human" and "dumps" her creator or owner if the guy is decent. I want as much fembot action as I can get.
I don't expect any novice actresses to be able to move like this, but here are a couple of EXCELLENT examples of robotic movement for the scenes that call for the actress(s) to move robotically. This can be because of startup/shutdown, reprogram, malfunction, damage, remote control, change of "mode," etc:
http://www.mannequeen.com/video/v10.avi
http://www.mannequeen.com/video/v11.avi
Please make sure they don't walk like Frankenstein's monster, or goosestep. Also monotone speech can be hard to successfully pull-off. If you feel that it's starting to sound like a drag instead of a computer, then just have the actress speak coldly, "matter of fact" or as emotionless as she can. Subtle movements, speech repetition, wording, etc. are also great for this sort of thing. Like both Eyebore and Fection have stated, there should always be something to betray her nature no matter how human she is acting. I really hope you can find an actress that enjoys the role enough to get into it, because that can make all the difference. I am not complaining; I'm trying to help you sell videos.

All great advice... which I'll keep in mind for my own stuff
Glad to see I'm not alone in the 'burning creative itch' video crowd on here...
Kinda funny how things come and go in waves with this group!

Another good example of a fembot shifting attitude and "modes" was done in the short film Deployment Strategy and the clip can be found here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWin1fVLGKs
It's important to note that she didn't seem too phased by the change in her modes and only responded to the situations as it was called for. She didn't get upset when her owner didn't want her affections, nor did she scream or make many facial expressions during her fight scene. Her damaged state was also done well. I'll take this opportunity to say, "Thanks again Mark Cheng for visiting us!" And thank YOU for taking a serious interest in what makes good fembot action

Thaw me out when robot wives are cheap and effective.

Hi, Alex,
Now that I may soon be in a position once again to actually consider buying some of these great fembot videos I keep hearing about, I suppose I can take a few minutes to share some of my preferences about them.
Speaking for myself, the main thing that makes a fembot more interesting than a human female is the fact that she is programmed to serve and MUST serve. So for me, anything that shows that people have control over her is the key. People turning her on and off. Giving her orders she is required to follow even though she doesn't want to. Reprogramming her mind, perhaps by forcing her to reply to certain stimuli in certain ways, or changing her personality. Things you couldn't do to a normal human, even a very submissive one.
For me physical damage (the sort you need special effects to demonstrate) is pretty much irrelevant, though I know others like it. If it's done right, though, software damage could be interesting - an android infected by a virus, or just suffering from a programming bug, for example.
Naturally the android should be as attractive as possible. She should look almost, but not 100% human - I don't find a chrome or all-white look appealing, but something that you could mistake for human until you noticed joint lines or control panels or indicator lights or something of that sort is great. But to me the most important thing identifying her as an android is her behavior, not her physical structure. When someone presses a button and she freezes in mid-sentence, turned off... that's great. Especially if she sees it coming and tries to protest.
Action, fights, and peril don't particularly do it for me, though I'm not saying it couldn't work. But I'm more partial to... well, the sort of scenes I've written, I suppose. Some examples can be found at: http://www.p-synd.com/auc/androids.htm

Another way to "cheat" and get an easy special effect is if the gynoid is more of an avatar. Meaning that her "brain" is actually housed in a computer on a desk in a lab smewhere, but the body and sensors are linked to it by super-super-high speed WiFi.
Some of the more famous anime gynoids with the rabbit-ear looking antennae are supposedly of this type.
So, it becomes a lot easier and cheaper, I guess, to do electronic malfunctions, or even conflicts with other gynoids. Evil gynoid finds hero gynoid's main computer (a junker desktop), and just starts pulling out circuit boards and wires. The hero gynoid starts losing control of limbs or functions. Her left leg freezes, or she can't talk anymore, loses memories, malfunctions, or freezing up totally every few seconds, just like my POS Windows PC, mayeb she reverts completely to a simpler personality, or to "factory settings". Maybe she tries to rush back to her main computer, but it gets hardedr and harder as more components are pulled out.
You could do the whole thing in reverse, too, for a repair scene, or a reprogramming from Good to Evil and such.
ANother option is taking a page from Minority Report and that crown thingy they used to immobilize people, just make it a crown/scrambler thingy that works against gynoids. If the battling gynoid can get the scrambler onto her opponents' head, or stuck onto her spine or something, she freeezes, or just runs in slow motion, or stutters and jitters, or whatever.
The whole battling gynoids thing seems like a good way to get malfunctions
