I've had a voicing offer - anyone got a preference?

Post by fection » Thu Jan 03, 2008 11:53 am

Hello there.
I've had a message via Youtube from some voice actors who are keen to provide voices 'just for fun'. Obviously I'm keen to take them up on their offer. I'm wondering if I should send them one of the old Candy stories in script form, or write a new one (which would obviously take a lot longer, and not be easy, as I had increasingly been painting myself into corners trying to come up with different ways to the same, malfunctioning end).
I suppose it would be better to send them something new. I'm just keen to go for the lazy option, I guess...
Anyway - just a bit excited!

Congrats on that. Me, I'm probably being lazy as well, but I'd say to send them an old story and see how it goes from there.
I'm just a 'girl' who wants to become a fembot whats wrong with that?

I'd definitely take them up on their offer, Fection, and I'm sure having real voice talent would break any writer's block pertaining to your stories, but it doesn't have to be brand new (not that I'm not looking forward to something brand new).

Personally, I would go with something you've already written. It is, as you say, easier in terms of not having to write anything new, but it also allows you to provide better direction to the voice actor. With an existing story, you already have a fully developed sense of the story, the characters, and the interactions between them.

With a new story, you have a completely blank slate to work with. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but it can be a bit daunting. Just my $0.74 (adjusting for inflation).

If you were to give them a copy of one (or some) of your old stories, but allow them to do a little 'ad- libbing'? Might be interesting to see what someone outside of FC might come up with.

I agree with the rest of the gang. I always look forward to new stuff from you, but give them a classic and see what they can do with it. I've been writing and producing radio theatre for almost 15 years, and I'm constantly amazed at what directions/spins voice actors can put to my work.

I agree with the group even though it would be great to see a new Candy story.

Good luck and keep us posted.

For that matter, I'll volunteer as well. I can produce or mix some darn good sound nowadays, and being able to list it on a resume with the kind of quality work you do would be pretty swell.

I really want to volunteer, but I don't know how to get my voice recorded on my computer lol... But keep me in mind; I may figure this out yet...

I'm with the rest of the crew fection, give them one of your old stories first to see how well they could pull it off. 'Sour Candy' would be good for them to try. I would be curious to see how well the pull off the malfunctioning parts of the story.....

Hey there, Winterose. Not sure what you mean. Are you thinking of me providing the script and you coming back with the completed soundtrack for me to animate to, or just SFX? Or giving you a rough script to beat into shape? I'm well keen for some collaboration in whatever means.

I mean if you've got a male part for me to read, I'll totally voice it and get it back to you. I've got a pretty darn good condenser mike and a tube pre-amp to go into my audio mixing program with. I'm able to get a pretty good rounded sound out of it with good bottom and a not at all tinny feel to it.

I'm a baritone that can get onto the low baritone range, but also, a rather feminine sound. (Weird. I can be mistaken for a chick all the time on the phone when I pitch my voice up.) I have rather a lot of voices and accents available to me, and I'm looking to make a career out of it sometime in the near future. I need NO compensation other than a resume credit. If you want an example, I've done a few things with the Realm of Bliss Podcast (erotic hypnosis blog).

However, if you want an example of what I can produce with my setup, I did the first scene from Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett's 'Good Omens' with the intention of doing the whole book sometime. That's on a rapidshare link here:

I'm not past helping to beat a rough into shape either. THat sounds like it could be fun. ^_^
