FILM > new Stepford Wives casting announcement
Caught this tidbit on the tube today, looks like Nicole Kidman is going to play the role of Joanna in one of my favorite flicks.

I hope so...
I hope so, I really really hope so.Unlike the low-budget original, the new version is likely to have spiffy, CGI effects for the scenes involving the fembots' transformation.
P.S.-the quote is from the article, so if E!online is looking, don't sue me.

I jiust hope he keeps the original ending which made the original movie such a great movie. Instead of going with a happy normal boring ending. Thats what made this movie one step above wesrtworld in my book. I think the original plpot still fits today. But just needing to upgrade the look and styles. plus bewtter looking women. I think lots of guys would want to get away from there stressfull lives. living with the perfect wife and thats still fits in any time frame. diont change the story so much but update the look the the ffects and dont over do the dark comedy aspect. it will be a great movie if this happens.

Could we possibly identify the people in charge of the film's production? We could send them R++ rated pictures or some simple, taught stories, from the on-line culture, tasteful and techno-erotic; and we could have URLs overlaid on the picture, for here and FA and other galleries.
I think this possibly great, breakthrough film could be even better, if we let them know that we're out here and rooting for them to get it right.
Should we start an innovative e-mail and cell phone, pager, and video phone campaign? Here's the IMDb page:

Won't a Stepford Wives remake just provoke
an anti-gynoid reaction from the general public?
Although ASFR people love the Stepford movies,
for the public at large the word "Stepford wife"
has an extremely sexist, even evil connotation.
This would not be a good movie to see with your
significant other, and then say "I get turned on by robot women."
It would likely meet a strong negative response,
"I don't want to be your mindless sex slave, you pig!"
[not to mention the unseen half of the plot - murdering the original wives]
I'm thankful this is being supposedly remade as a
black comedy to hopefully negate some of the negativity.
But in general, this movie will not help "our cause"
Just imagine how disastrous it would be if the ASFR community
were given worldwide exposure in this film... How many radical feminists
would flood the message boards?
Would any attempt to "educate" the filmmakers backfire? After all,
we're the type of people who dream of living in Stepford, which
unfortunately lumps us in with the twisted murderers who killed and
replaced their wives. [not that WE advocate that, but don't expect a Hollywood producer to make that distinction]
Looking forward to "positive gynoid role models"
like Adrenalyn.. or even T3 (as strong females)

I totally agree with andoroido.
I too am a little uneasy about a remake of this movie.
The original is in the Horror section of my local video store because its about murder/replacing.
I didn't even know what a stepford wife was until discovering the gynoid gallery. (Yes, I admit it).
I am glad to see Frank Oz is directing.
I trust him. He'll do a good job.

Yeah, people are worrying about rehabilitating this fetish? That's a little unrealistic; you can only normalize a true fetish so far. It's an unrealistic, even immature goal. At least, I feel I've outgrown my need to rationalize the sexual/irrational. My appetites here have no bearing on how I feel about women, those appetites are a portrait of me, and the contradiction does not need to be reconciled. At least not by me, not now.href wrote:Oh lighten up. no-one even knows we exist, let alone warbands of fiesty women. If you are all that scared of what people will think, we should all stop this group immediatly.

So with this message board, I'm trying to become an enthusiast, a writer even, if only of a tiny sub-genre of porn. I want people here to know we do not have truly violent or demeaning drives. This only seems to be a contradiction, but really, sex and life are two very divergent mindsets.

*ugh* *shudder* Rosie in leather.....silverkarakuri wrote:Agreed, I certainly I don't think hollywood could go a good mainstreaming of the fetish anyways, does anyone here remember the Anne Rice BDSM flick named Exit to Eden starring Rosie O'Donnell & Dan Ackroyd?
Thanks for that memory -NOT!

Of course I don't really expect the Stepford remake to bring the wrath of all remaining feiminism down on this board, as some of you point out, it would make for an interesting debate.
Although it could refresh an anti-sexbot vibe in a section of the populace. But in general, the movie will probably be lucky to become a minor hit, unless a large cast of supermodels is recruited as the populace of Stepford. In that case, it would certainly increase the interest in ASFR amongst men.

(Supermodels would be perfect for the role of airhead sexbot.)

It certainly is possible that there could be "some" reaction to the subject matter, but keep in mind what this project is; a big budget, A-list, studio product. They wouldn't release anything that might alienate ant part of the audience. A little controversy can be good for publicity, but too much bad word might kill the box office.
While it's not what I'd do, a more plausible scenario might be a combining of the storylines of the first two films. That way you get the robot element, but somewhere along the way it all falls apart and the robots end up revolting and stomping the "evil" men to death. That would provide a neater Hollywood ending and still please both camps.
Personally I hope for a film with a similar tone to the original. This is a horror movie, the less campiness the better.

Found this on a website run as a sort of Hollywood Stock Exchange, where you can invest in various actors/directors/projects/etc. At first, the news of his directing the Stepford sequel had a negative impact on Frank Oz's value, but when word was given that Nicole Kidman was starring the value of the film went up. Too bad the Paramount website doesn't give info on projects that are in the works.

Actually I wondered quite a lot how nice it would be of they got hold of Sandra Bullock for Bobbie's part. Seeing that Bullock and Kidman have worked together to nice effect. (Practical Magic)
Bullock after all DID do that Bionic Man series pilot in the late 80's. How interesting might it be to see her doing a malfunctioning scene or getting implanted? Mmmmmmmm...
And how disturbing is it that I find myself aroused by it at the same time? I consider myself far from misogynist. But the idea of seeing a nice mechanical Kidman would be marvelous!

you guys are saying they wont have a movie like the original that had no political correct ending. But I think it could be different. Not all movies have a politically correct ending. and i want to see how they play the wives characters before they are switched. I mean if the wives are real bitches or protrayed has bad mothers it might have the husband replace there wives to get away from the evil women. who knows? Its a dark comedy and in a darlk comedy most anything goes. look at that movie with christian slater. where the guys go to vegas for the weekend for a bachelor party. The girl they hire to come to there hotel dies while having sex. the rest of the movie they try to cover it up even though its a accident. this movie was not very PC so to speak. I think thats why its being billed has a dark comedy. Also in the original they never showed anything to explicit like the actual death scenes. if they do this they can make the moviie have a very simular ending to the earlyier version. Just remember in a dark comedy most of the time the characters dont have morals or forget them and get caught up in downward spiral of deciet ,greed and or death trying to hide some secret or trying to gain some thing such has ransome. Such has the movie ealier mentioned. So we can only hope it stays true to original story.
