Shape of things to come?

Post by fection » Wed Mar 09, 2005 10:07 am

Hello.
What with all the 'how long until realistic androids turn up?' discussions going on, I thought I'd let you know I saw a photo of a 'welcoming android' in the Metro 'news'paper here in London. That is, the PAPER is in London, but the PHOTO was from a technology conference in (no surprises) Japan. Apparently the android (called Actroid) could recognise 40000 phrases in four languages. As for realism, 'she' had the rigid 90 degree arms that we all love and a cute, but obviously-not-human face. She was wearing a blue air-stewardesque suit, with hat. No scan, sorry - just a heads up. Anyone else see it? Page 20, on Monday, if I remember rightly.

Yes I saw it too, just never got chance to mention it here as I'm quite busy at work at present with Cheltenham festival coming up and all the Champions League matches that are taking place, the telebetting world is very busy at present.Nothing a robot cant cope with though  oh I wish I was!

That info wont mean a thing to our transatlantic members but I guess the Brits might know what I mean..........And no Doug I'm not explaining it all just so you can get a few more entries on here!

THAT's the wee lass.
And might I say she's looking a lot more realistic in those shots! I guess that's the difference between studio lighting and a press photo op.
She was wearing a different outfit in the photo I saw. Much more air steward-y.
More of that, I say! Bring on our robotic helpers/masters!

Compare to Chen's recent find:

Looks quite similar, doesn't it?
One wonders if it is the same bot, maybe a little improved since the films from Osaka university were made.
