Gynoida Obscuria

Post by Kriegsaffe No. 9 » Mon Jan 17, 2005 9:50 am

Being a conneseur of anime, roleplaying games, and all things esoteric, here's a few android femmes from whatever I can remember.

RPGS--

Dungeons and Dragons Fiend Folio: the 3rd edition has the Caryatid Column, in essense an animated Romanesque statue of a beautiful woman. Aside from that, she also has a magic bastard sword, arrows shatter upon striking her, and she can disguise herself as a ... caryatid column, a kind of archetecture. Ironically, one of the less weird DnD monsters.

DnD Eberron: a campaign setting priding itself on its unique flavor. One of the new races is the Warforged, manufactured life-forms used in the Last War (a 100-year-long, World War I-esque conflict). After the war ended they were "decomissioned" and, after lots of legislative wrangling, concidered living creatures.
It is noted that warforged generally have a neuter look, but due to production errors, customization, and general attitude, some are distinctly masculine or femenine.
The facist Lord of Blades, a violent revolutionary, is known to have acquired creation forges and is making his own new warforged. Given his attitude that "all life must be extinguished," it's likely he's created female versions of themselves.

GURPS Transhuman Space: The Transhuman Space setting for the Generic Universal Role-Playing Game has rules for playing machines, anywhere from femmebots to octopoid sex toys to guided missile AI (seriously!). The nature of GURPS is to be extremely flexible--so obviously there's rules for playing bots.

How Not to Draw Manga: A hilarious guidebook for the advanced cartoonist, a mocking guide on "how NOT to make manga," which involves going through every possible cliche and mocking them endlessly. For example: "The catgirl. She is like a cat, so obviously she's immature and curious. Her innocent and hilarious antics will surprise and delight your friends. Nobody has ever done this before."
A robot pimp guides you through the creation of femmebots--including classifications of butt types ("The Sally from the Valley. The Modest Proposal. The Junk in the Trunk.")

How to Draw Manga--Giant Robots, and How to Draw Manga--Bishoujo (Pretty Gals): Both include a section on female robots. Giant Robots includes a few "before and after" examples on how to turn a normal anime girl into a robot--certain to inspire ideas among our humble crewe.

Kite (or was that Mezzo Forte?): A hentai action-drama. The main character sells a sex droid at one point, which acts like a stiffly-moving mannequin.

Battle Angel Alita: manga series about the adventures of a cyborg girl, who is extremely hot and has a variety of interesting (and sexy) bodies. A fantastic book, as well as being high on gynoid content.

Doll: A series of manga "robot girl dramas." Dolls are intelligent robots, typically in gothic-lolita garb, who have bizarre adventures. Set up like The Twilight Zone. The art is good, but the stories are so-so.

Chobits: The adventures of a college kid and his new pet robot, the adorable Chi. Good read, though the ending is rushed. Includes the hilarious and cute pocket girl-bot Sumomo. Chi has since made an appearance in other CLAMP comics, but there she's a catgirl.

Those are all I can remember at the moment. Glad to help.

Cool list.

Not sure if you remember (I am dating myself), but oh, 20+ years or so ago there was am AD&D module with a sci-fi theme called Expedition to the Barrier Peaks (Module S3). Among the interesting bits of technology your characters might encounter was an android nurse. The visual aid booklet has a very nice B&W drawing of her by D&D master artist Erol Otus.

Come to think of it, that android nurse from a D&D module is among the earliest fembots where I was dimly aware of finding the whole robot thing sexy. Weird.

Oh, geez, Keraptis...I remember that module, too, back in the day when I played PnP AD&D, though now, my D&D fix has been satisfied with Neverwinter Nights :P

New android-women in RPGs.

Exalted: The Alchemicals

http://www.white-wolf.com/Brian/AutoCoverRough.jpg

A new expansion for the Exalted RPG. The Alchemical Exalted are vat-grown construct entities aligned to the "celestial materials," and in servitude to the great machine Autochton.

They learn charms--supernatural powers--by literally bolting them on, so a Lore charm might look be a circuitboard on the back of the neck, for example.

Each Alchemical resonates to a kind of metal--Soulsteel (a dark black metal; they have high Appearance but clearly artificial, bolted-on charms), Orichalcum (looks like gold), Jade (comes in a variety of colors, including green, red, and blue), Moonsilver (guess what color it is?), and Soulsteel (blueish, and tends to glow with poorly-contained magical essense).

Not much else is known--the book is a few months away. I'm already eager for it, though.

One of those metals you described was prevalent in the Shadowrun RPG I used to play.

The "orichalcum" you mentioned was a rare magical metal that combined silver, gold, and mercury (as I recall) into a superstrong, all-purpose metal (much like aluminum is now) that could be used for just about anything.

Though it went against the rules (who said anything about rules), I had created an android character who had a human brain enclosed in an orichalcum container that interfaced perfectly with her robot body...yes, a woman...funny how I recall that now?

She was one of my most powerful characters...but sadly, my gaming group went their separate ways many moons ago

Shadowrun? Cool. I've seen the corebook and I've been meaning to pick it up... I like the setting, particularly.

Oh, and I don't mind the playing-a-girl bit; about 95% of my characters are female, and 70% of the others are monsters. And the rest are usually genderless.

Orichalcum is slightly different in Exalted, but yeah, it's got the same connotations. A character uses an orichalcum blade in Spriggan, for example--where orichalcum is revealed to grow denser the more pressure is put on it, and that the walls of Atlantis are made of orichalcum.

Plus it's just fun to write. Orichalcum. Orichalcum. It sounds cool, and mildly dirty.

Cyberpunk also had its share of robots and cyborgs. At some point I created a very deadly assassin. They were twins, one fully human posing as a high-class escort lady would go in first and stick around long enough for security to let her through. But then her sister, a full-conversion cyborg would take over, looking identical, but capable of ripping a human up like a piece of paper. Her brain was contained in a special pod so it could be transferred to a more combat-worthy body if necessary. On top of that she was also a trained Powered Armour pilot and would go into battle as a fully capably combat cyborg, topped with powered armour. My players had a nasty surprise when they THOUGHT they had taken her down ... In the end it took the player's resident psychopath whole stash of C4 to get her, alongside a whole block. It started raining 20mm vulcan lead on them shortly afterwards ...

So, lemme guess...there were some visits to the emergency room later?

"Sir, you can't just get up in the middle of a procedure to leave...we still have to put your guts back in!"

Though we pronounced it "ore-RICK-you-lum".

Yeah, I've got some early editions of Shadowrun, and a few modules left over from when I used to play on a regular basis...though now, it's a bit difficult to go see the people I used to RPG with. They live about three hours away, so it'd be a looooooooooooooong drive both ways.

Sailor moon! Some of Usagi's foes are some kind of dolls, robots or mannequins.
