Just wondering if anyone has had a chance to view this yet. Anything worthwhile that didn't make the theatrical release?

I don't think it has been released yet. This Tuesday is the date, last I heard.

Ooops. My bad. Saw some ads in the paper today and just made assumptions. Still, if anyone gets their hands on it, a review would be most appreciated.

Saw a web site with a review of this movie, it stated that the DVD will contain an atlernate ending that didn't test well with test audiances. Maybe it will be one that suits our tastes?

According to the original announcement of the DVD, it will contain several (nine I think) deleted scenes.

I would say that the movie MIGHT be ok if someone could take the DVD and edit to remove all the laughs and the "happy" editing.

I have the pirate version from Limewire and it's only marginally better.

Still, nine missing scenes could be quite a lot.

Hey gang!

The DVD's deleted scenes section is pretty good. The square dance scene with Faith Hill has a couple of more malfunctioning parts to it, and the grand daddy of them all is the scene titled 'Bobbie's Kitchen' with Bette Midler. YOU HAVE GOT TO SEE IT! I'll say that if you could give an Acadamy Award for 'Best Actress in a Malfunctioning Scene', The 'Divine Miss M' would win hands down. Also with a little bit of s shout out to the Special Effects Team for their work.
....but don't take my word for it view it yourself and decide.

Hmm,

Could someone give a full run-down on deleted scenes section?

I liked the square-dance scene (though it was just terribly short).

Bobbie's kitchen was WAY to campy for me - but tastes differ.

So I'm curious what everything here is.

Well Svengli,

The square dance scene has all the parts like the movie, but when Sarah (Faith Hill) hits the floor she goes through a little more of a full malfunction loop than what was in the movie. Then when they pick her up from the floor, she goes through another little episode in the back of the room that you got to see.

As for the 'Bobbie's Kitchen' scene...It's so long in detail to explain, but trust me if your a big fan of malfunctioning droids, then this scene is for you. It's got comedy, sex appeal, and some good special effects to boot.

I rented it last night, and I suppose I got my 4 bucks worth, although combined with the $7 they got from the theatrical showing, I think Paramount came out ahead.

I, like most of you, was terribly disappointed in the film. The deleted scenes on the DVD do confirm that the original script had the women replaced with robots, not just chip implanted zombies.

As mentioned above, the square dance scene was extened with a little more detail on Faith Hill's malfunction. Pretty good.

There is also a very brief scene with Faith Hill at the ball at the end, where she has pinned her husband against a pole with a telescoping arm appendage. No real context to it, though it appears to be related to when the women started revolting after Mathew Broderick erased their programing.

And finally, there is a much extended scene in Bobbie's kitchen, where she clearly has some major problems. The scene is vaguely reminiscent of the original "I thought we were friends" scene although this one is played for laughs. I never liked the idea of making this film a comedy, and all I could think about is Bette Midler as Inspector Gadget and I'll leave it at that. I'm sure it'll float some people's boats, just not mine.

It's worthwhile viewing to see the direction the movie should have taken I suppose, but it doesn't really flesh it out too much, and the film as a whole is still pretty lame, IMHO.

Hmm,

I think both the large scenes - extended square dancing and Bobbie's kitchen - were on the pirate version - plus one where Joanna is sort-of temporarily brainwashed at the Stepford Day Spa.

If there's nothing else of any length, then I might as well skip it (since I still have the pirated version though the disk it's on might be about to die).

Skip it, Svengli. I also have the version you mention and the extra/extended scenes on the dvd (Bobbie's kitchen and the squaredancing) are only slightly different from what you've already viewed.

There are about 4 other extra/extended scenes on the dvd, but none of them show any mechanical stuff.

Okay, I bought the dvd after renting one and viewing it, even though I thought the film sucked. Gotta have it for the "collection", y'know.

Now I've got a problem viewing the dvd on my computer. Apparently the disk has some sort of copy protection. I've tried opening it with Power DVD and Ace Media Player and Windows Media Player. No luck. When I tried DivX it told me that I needed to disable the tv out in order for the disk to play. Anybody had this happen to them on any dvds? Better yet, anyone have a player that will override all this "protection"? I'd like to make some screen captures.

There are six extra/extended scenes on the dvd. From memory, they are:

1. Squaredance. Faith Hill dosey-dos all over the place. There are just a few extra moments of flinching and twitching from what you see in the movie.

2. Men on the driveway. This is a very brief scene with Matthew Broderick and a few other husbands. The character of Walter reflects on his last moments with the original Joanna as he stands in the driveway looking back at the house. He asks for advice from the other husbands and they all say the 'change' is the best thing that could ever happen. Walter asks, "Any regrets?" Several emphatically say "none", but then one adds "well.....get the cigarette lighter option. It's worth the extra money."

3. Bobbie's Kitchen. Bette Midler turns into Inspector Gadget, with gizmos popping out of every part of her. It all starts with the jab of a knife courtesy of Joanna - just like in the original. Played for comedy, not for sex appeal.

4. Walter in the Lab. This one shows just a few extra frames of Walter messing with the equipment in the underground lab. I haven't rewatched the film, but I think the extras here are some shots of the other wives as they are purged of their programming.

5. Telescoping Faith. A very quick scene with Faith Hill's character pinning her husband off the ground with a telescoping arm extension. When Mike tries to intervene, Sarah (Faith's character) scowls "You want some?"

6. Claire's electrocution. An extended version of the final scene with Glen Close getting electrocuted. Again, I haven't compared the actual movie footage with this clip, but the differences are not large.

There are other extras on the dvd, such as a gag reel and various "making of" featurettes. Just a bunch of promotional bs, if you ask me.

Yeah, nothing interesting I didn't see on pirate version. In fact, I think the pirate version has more.

But it's very good having no stone unturned.
