Sky Captain: Mysterious Woman

Post by noidguy » Sun Sep 12, 2004 5:23 pm

Any possibilities that the character of Mysterious Woman in "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" is robotic? Sure seems likely, given the nature of the rest of the film.

Edit by KOS-MOS: Yes, she is a robot. Skip ahead to read about content.

That woman that is prominently shown is Bai ling. She is very prolific in a lot of movies and does have the ability to very well carry it off as an android. The appearance definitely gives a lot of hope. More information is being saught at this time and will be offered when discovered.

Angelina Jolie plays Frankie, the commander of the Manta Squadron. She and Sky Captain seem to have something going from way back.

The Mystery woman is Bai Ling and little is known about her. She's got a staff with neat special effects and appears to be somewhat superhuman in ability.

Bai Ling was also Top Dollar's sister in The Crow, as well as a shaven headed peasant woman that had to be made an example of in Anna & The King.

I just got back from a preview showing of the film, which was fabulous. If the trailers interest you odds are you will not leave feeling the theatre got the best of your pocket book.

The mysterious woman is a robotgirl. The "asfr" content is minor though, none of the characters know she is a robot until Joe 'Sky Captain' Sullivan has to combat her to get across a bridge. The nameless girlbot almost gets the best of Joe and is about to finish him off when Polly Perkins hits her in the face, knocking her away. We see a quick shot of the 'bot laying on the ground with part of her face smashed in, exposed metal and electric sparks.

Later she shows up briefly again, half of her face still smashed and sparking. Joe takes her weapon, an staff with some sort of electric charge at the end, and pushes it into her face causing her to be jolted and short-out.

I really enjoyed the character and wished they had done more with her. If you think you want to see this film just for fembot content, do not bother. She is the strong silent type who never removes her goggles and the only femmie features to her are the shape of her leather-clad body and her exposed lipstick-coated lips. I'm hoping for comics, a video game or some other tie-in to get some more background on her.
