Have to admit to wondering that one myself in all honesty,but never wished to a 'dumb blonde' impersonation by doing so if its something simple!Thanks Ddroid for doing so though.
I look at it this way I guess,I want to be the fembot and not create one so on that basis if I need to know what FTP is it will be programmed into me.

FTP is a way for one computer to talk to another computer and get files.

To use FTP to get files, you download an "FTP client" (or use one already on your computer), then run the client program. It is similar to the web. You tell your FTP client the FTP address of the computer you want to go and once you have logged in there, the other computer tells you what's on it - it gives you a directory listing (possibly with subdirectories) and you use that to get the files you want.

You can use internet explorer for ftp. Just type ftp:// and then the ftp address - that's instead of type http:// and the web address.

That's the short answer. Naturally, can use google to get a longer answer if you want it.

I'm no internet expert but I do know a few basic facts.

You need a web host.

A hosting company stores your files on their computers and makes them available to the world.

A domain name is just an address that is not tied to any physical place or computer until you set up a host for your site.

There are many cheap and some free hosting services that make it very easy to get your stuff published on the internet without using complicated FTP programs.

I used "inmotion" to host a site and was very happy with the service and ease of use.

FTP stands for "File Transfer Protocol", as apposed to HTTP which stands for "Hyper Text Transfer Protocol".
