The last second of the trailer is shocking and unacceptable, to say the least.

One can find plenty of credits at the imdb page, or in the article linked.
This doesn't look particularly good to me, but others might be interested in the bdsm aspects of the story.

Re: Black Eyed Susan (indie film)
I never understood even the premise of the original Westworld (repeated again in the HBO version): create unbelievably attractive sex robots who will do anything for you, then sell the place on the ability to kill another person. Isn't that what everyone wants? Fools, all of them!
We're now living in times celebrating toxic masculinity and the subjugation of women, so it's no wonder such a movie would come out. There's a lot of people who find this very appealing, unfortunately.

That last scene is indeed shocking and I share your distaste. Subjectification and violence is unpleasant, whether towards real people or machines designed in their image.
But isn’t that the point of movies like (the original) Stepford and both old and new Westworlds amongst others? To confront some of the unpleasant aspects of human nature by using robots as an ‘excuse’ for the human protagonists’ bad behaviour? The perpetrators’ behaviour seldom emerges in a positive light. I for one will give this a chance if it is released, if it does turn out to be a sick celebration of violence against women I can always stop watching.
Granted though, the trailer doesn’t seem to hint at any deeper meaning…

Yep let's stick to the Fighter-Killer-Military fembot trope.
Hey,not a fan of the subject matter of the movie but the bringing up of the idea of "toxic masculinity" in to this is reaching.
It seems if the fembot is really a powerful killing machine dropping humans (almost always males) no one thinks why.
I'm convinced that it's because of fourth wave feminism why this whole "fetish" of the fembot hasn't and will not portray any but a limited array of narratives.ASFetishRobots I believe is dying a slow death.

Re: Black Eyed Susan (indie film)
I don't think it helps the film that it's shot in super 16mm with bad lighting. The grainy 80's b-movie aesthetic points to an edgy-for-edgy's-sake tone.
But who knows, it might end up having an insightful take. My understanding is that she's built specifically for the bdsm market, and Derek isn't even into that at first. That's a novel twist on old tropes.

If not dying, then inverting. A robot is an object. That's the whole point. It's a power/creator fantasy. People out here shocked by a punch to the face? After how much content we consume about mental conditioning, objectification, and literal remote control? It's irritatingly irrational.tdlsn wrote: ↑Fri Jul 12, 2024 8:00 pm Yep let's stick to the Fighter-Killer-Military fembot trope.

Re: Black Eyed Susan (indie film)
I just came from a screening tonight. It's a thoughtful and disturbing movie that is very much worth seeing. It's going to be a bit of a letdown in terms of robot content (star Yvonne Emilie Thalker gives a super performance, and has some great still poses and a little bit of electric voice work for the fandcom), but the ideas explored will make up for it.
More importantly, as of right now, there are no plans for streaming availability because of the content of the material between the two leads (both get fully naked), so you'll need to look out for a screening or buy the BluRay from Vinegar Syndrome.
So yes, make the effort to get the film and meet it on its terms.
