Anyone got some great screenshots to share? I'll make a few characters and take screenshots, so you ASFRians can see what I'm seeing.

I'm actually not familiar with it. What is it? TV? Movie?

MMORPG if I'm not mistaken. In the same vein as an Everquest or FFXI online game I think. Except in this everyone is a superhero (or supervillian?) I hope I'm thinking of the right thing or else I just made myself look extremely dumb lol.

CoH

Post by PirateStoat » Mon May 10, 2004 6:02 am

City of Heros is a massively multiplayer game in which each player creates and plays a unique superhero. (No villains - there is NO player vs player combat in COH)

The reason it was brought up in this forum is that one 'source' you can choose for your superpowers is 'technology'. The costume parts this 'origin' permits are very sci-fi, and allow for very robotic looking characters.

I got the game myself not too long ago. Yes you can make robotic characters. I was hoping to upload some screenshots of my characters I made for CoH. But I can't remember about what extensions the gallery would accept.

Anyways CoH has 5 'origins' or source of your hero's powers....

Mutant, Science, Technology, Natural and Magic.

If you want a robot or android a good choice would be technology. However you might also concider science or magic (golems that look like people or remotely humanoid built by mechanical or elemental means in place of electronics.) Mutant would be a bit of a stretch unless nanotechnology or a similair technology was used. Natural would mean normal human with remarkable talents.

Also keep in mind that the missions and contacts your hero would receive are based on origin. In the case of technology you would fight clockworks.

After that you choose an 'archtype' or nature of your hero's powers...

Blaster, Controller, Defender, Scrapper and Tanker.

This is where it gets a little tricky at this point. Blasters and Defenders are your ranged attackers and along with Controllers would stay away from the front lines. Controllers manipulate enemies from afar. (In others words Blasters, Defenders and Controllers would be the 'Mages' and they can't go toe to toe with hostiles for long!)

Now unless you want your android or gynoid hero to just heal to assist other heros then those three archtype would fit that hero style of play.

HOWEVER if you want a battle android and/or gynoid then go Scrapper or Tanker. Scrapper is built for hand to hand combat and have balanced offensive and defensive potential. Tankers are the heavy hitters and love to go toe to toe with hostiles you can think of Tankers as more specialized then the Scrappers. The downside is that the Scappers and Tankers have NO ranged attacks! So if you want to go toe to toe INSTEAD of ranged combat then this would your archtypes. (In other words Scappers and Tankers would be the 'Warriors' with no ranged attacks.)

Unfortunately if you are expecting the 'Red Mage' like (From Final Fantasy 11) archtype for CoH. (Have both melee and ranged attack as well as heal a.k.a the 'I wanna do it all' type hero) and then I'm afraid youre out of luck.

In my opinion android controllers would be rare. Android blasters and defenders would be more common. But more likely android and gynoid heroes would be mostly scrappers and tankers. I could be wrong however.

Does anyone else have the game?

I have not been able to be around here much as of late and what time I do have to myself has been spent playing City of Heroes. I posted a sketch of my character in the gallery and will post some screen captures when I get the chance. If anyone wants to play with me I can be found on the Virtue (unofficial RP).

I would really like to put together a team of 'bots and mechanics/mad scientists (meaning human controllers or defenders) if anyone is interested.

Thought you guys would appreciate a shot of my character on the left, and my ol' Grandma (NPC Luminary), on the right ... isn't she something!

Image will be hosted in the gallery for those who want to add my character as a pinup to their collection. :)

You in a supergroup?

I got several characters the latest one is Powerdoll Jenny (in virtue). I wasn't sure how often you are on CoH?
