Project Aiko
Hi,
i'm not sure if this was posted before, but imho this is too good to go unnoticed:
http://www.projectaiko.com/blog/blogger.html
Make sure to watch the "Video 2". For a single person this is really a big achievement and definitely a step in the right direction
If the video doesn't play for you it can also be downloaded directly at http://www.projectaiko.com/video/aiko2.wmv (29MB)

Hi
Project Aiko is real.
What you give her she can read on the fly, same goes to solving math.
Any word she can't read, she will spell it out.
You can see her public appearance at the International Center and Ontario Science Center in Nov 2007.
My guess for Aiko to walk will cost about another $9000.
I have to use Seiko Motor which cost about $600 each.
Hopefully, I will find a sponsor soon, so that I can continue
my research and make her walks.
In case you are wondering, Aiko has senors in her whole body,
and both her arms. I am saving money so that I can put the sensors
in her face too.
Since, I have spent so much time taking pictures, I might as well post it up.
If you have anymore questions please do not hesitate to ask me.

Mr. Trung, you do incredible work at Project Aiko! Truly beautiful. The artificial intelligence is the best I have seen. The fact that she can learn, recognize and problem solve, far surpasses the Actroid. Not to mention that she is more self-contained. For one man to have done this deserves much admiration and respect. It is apparent that you have put a lot of time in developing her. Obviously I hope that you are successful in making her walk and continuing to improve her capabilities! I'm sure all of us here hope so. Thank you for sharing your work with us. I wish you much success
P.S.
My relatives Aiko and Ayko should feel honored

Here is Aiko's new prototype Hand.
I have tested the new hand at Star Bucks picking up the coffee.
I didn't get the change to video it, but I will video the next time I am there.
Pro:
1) 5 movable fingers
2) Compact size. Same as human's hand
3) Will have complete sensors for feedback
4) Low Power consumption 5V
5) Can be use for Aiko.
6) 15 movable joints
7) Material Cost $1800
Can be use for Aiko or for human. Life-like mechanical limb that has the ability to feel physical sensation.
(Control by human muscle) special senors and controller will attach to the human's muscle. Another words, controlling the hand with our muscles.
Human Brain >> Nerve Impulse >> Muscle >> Aiko's Hand
This technology can be beneficial for people born with or who have undergone amputations.
Since, I can't find any volunteer, I guess I will it on myself.

Hi
Here is version 2 of Aiko hand
Weight only 95 grams with 2x more power.
What would you do if you have a robot hand attach to you.
Use it to drink beer and give the "finger"

Hi,
Well, just updated what I have been doing lately.
2) Add new features to the object 3-D recognition, hopefully it will do objects tracing better in the future.
3) Started to order some basic parts for Aiko's leg. Hopefully, Aiko will be able to walk by Christmas... it's a long shot.
Not sure it will work or not, but I won't know until I have tried.
It will be tricky to fit all the mechanical parts into a normal human legs size for Aiko.
4) Aiko have made her first US public appearance... (New York)
I had fun being at the anime convention, and meet a lot of people.

Hi
Nothing news with Aiko. I was planning to add Aiko's new arm system for Ontario Science appearance, but I didn't make it in time.
So Aiko is using her old arm system....
This year, I will let people interact act with her more.
I had a great time there

I just read the comments for that article. I would like to applaud Canada for having one of the most intelligent and supportive discussions I've seen in these articles so far. Most of the time it's primarily just comments about how robots are going to become angry killing machines or juvenile sex comments (although sex would be a great addition to a companion's functions). But it's refreshing to see that people can have an open-minded and civil discourse and that Mr. Trung's achievements are recognized by civilians. Hopefully, somebody that can help him has taken the time to see this as well.maax wrote:http://www.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/ ... echnology/

Aiko is appearing everywhere it seems. The Dutch media are going ballistic over it right now. Sadly, even though we Dutch are usually known for our open-mindedness, some comments on the articles are unbelievably stupid. Darn Luddites...
There are also very positive comments though. Some are even asking when they could buy their own versions. I know I'd like to
Beautiful work, I wish I had a lot of cash to invest in this but I can only spread the word on other communities.

Hi all,
Thank for all your support.
For some reasons, every reporter in town were in front of my door last week and still coming more.
It's weird seeing yourself in TV.
As for the website.... it was getting at least 20 millions hits and crashed a lot lately. But hits should be going down during the holiday and less after the new year. Anyone know a good ISP webhosting company... that will not crash during rush hours hits.
As of today, I have not find a sponsor yet.
However, donations is getting a bit more.
I can almost buy 3 out 14 motors for the legs.
I am hoping to get at least 6 motors soon, so I can start working on one leg.

Happy New Year
Hi,
I have found a new web hosting. They were pretty cool, hosting it for free.
Just updated the BRAINS software, and it will stay like that for awhile because the cpu load has reached it limit at 99% load.
Unless I update to quad core2 or Core7.... but I don't see money grow on tree.
Anyway, Aiko new voices and new pink dress.
Someone got her for Christmas...
Aiko next public appearance is Jan 17, 2009. at CNE toronto, Canada.
Video of happy new year.
