Being a Canadian (and we're facing our own national elections in early October, BTW), I would say after the eight years America's undergone with W., you folks deserve a break from it. So hopefully, Washington will go Democratic this time.

I won't answer.
Nobody here will have a clue as to whether I made the winning choice.

That would drive them nuts, wouldn't it?Though I am seriously considering taking a chance this year and casting in my lot with Obama. If for nothing then for the entertainment value it will give me seeing the rednecks, and white supremicist bigots chafe under a black president.

I'll be casting my vote for Obama.
I kind of like Kishins thinking on this and my own reasons run along similar lines.
On not voting, I seem to recall that when all was said and done, the Bush/Gore election came down to something like 500 votes.
I would not want to be one of those 501 people who stayed home.
At the end of the day, politicians are all scum bags. It's just one of the qualifications you need to get elected and keep your office.
You just got to pick the least offensive smell.

I understand differences in which policy one prefers and also the realization that the kind of people who go into politics aren't usually the highest quality person.
I'm going to have to say that voting in hopes the result will enrage millions of people strikes me as a bit --- pathological. One should hope to find points of agreement and focus on those.

The number of whites who are "redneck" racists out of the 1930s-1950s is a minority. A larger proportion of black people are likely racist these days, with hard core white racists mostly fringe groups.
I have heard a number of people express the sentiment they want to "teach whites a lesson" and the like -- and they are white. It's a fairly typical statement. They actually believe all white people really hate blacks and hispanics and the lack of virulent rhetoric is a cover for "code words". It says something about their own real selves.
People like that really do choose candidates on such a basis rather than because they approve the person's economic/social/foreign position and/or see that person as someone who can do a good job.
Of course it is true you can't trust politicians. Even the ones who do things you approve of are going to do things you don't for often unexplained reasons.

The whole damn thing is a process... the whole campaign is based upon CHANGE, AND YET... A LOT OF THINGS STAY THE SAME...Kind of a DOG AND PONY SHOW, and popularity contest. Most folks will make up their mind at the polls based on stuff that happened in the two weeks prior to the election, and not much more..... Image consultants have taken the First Ladies, McCain's and Obama's.... and STEPFORDIZED them... softer hair, and notice that they are not as opinionated lately...not speaking of issues, instead just focusing on their fashion, etc....sadness, when our country is supposed to revel in our freedoms......Even Sarah Pailin is being COACHED for the upcoming debates to do things a certain way........ Cripes. Count on it that she will have new HIGHLIGHTS, and a softer doo, along with wearing smart business attire ...when the VP debate is over, the first thing commented on will be that 'SHE LOOKED GREAT, AND SOUNDED SMART" .....kids, I feel my IQ dropping by the minute. --minkwheel

I watch House to learn how to observe human nature, and to recognize the clues which suggest that a particular disease is at work.
McCain's left eye is wrong. And this is recent.
The lid is swollen, the outer corner droops down, and it doesn't track with his right as well as it should.
Cancer may have invaded his cranial nerve.
McCain's chances of lethal return of cancer are HUGE.
Sarah Palin appears to possess an Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, and has compensated psychologically with a rigid mental structure and delusions of competence beyond her level. Did you see the Couric interviews?
Or the parodies? She attended six college over five years, and I'd take Bill Maher's bet that she couldn't fill in the names of the countries on a map of the Middle East.
Sarah Palin is not Trig's mother.
Bristol drank and took drugs, and her child may well not have Down's Syndrome, but suffers from some degree of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder. The facial characteristics of the two conditions are easily distinguished from normal infants. Down's Syndrome and FASD faces can not be mistaken for each other.
In 35 days, I'll be fully able to experience the empathy I wish to feel for John, Sarah, Bristol, Levi and Trig.
Right now, I hope they will be publicly destroyed through the revelation of their delusions and their ignorance.

I'm all for civilian ownership of assault rifles myself (and, living in Canada, that's an extremely frustrating situation to be in). But there's one problem with it. The problem is the likelihood of some of the troglodytes now swarming toward the Palin-McCain ticket turning their assault rifles on the president-elect come November. Unrepentant fascists are now crawling out from under rocks all over America. I've been to America, I knew there was racism, but fellows, I never imagined it would be as bad as it is now, and it's going to get worse. And the worst part is that it won't even help McCain win. And with all those assault rifles floating around.. God bless America, but I wouldn't give Obama the same odds as Nelson Mandela for surviving his first term in office. This is horrifying.

New AG Choice Advocated To Stifle Speech On Web
By Kerry Picket
November 21, 2008 - 08:16 ET
In April 1999, the Columbine High School massacre happened. The shooters, Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris, reportedly learned how to construct sophisticated bombs through their internet activity. This discovery caused then Deputy Attorney General Eric Holder to say the following(audio uploaded at Eyeblast.tv
The court has really struck down every government effort to try to regulate it. We tried with regard to pornography. It is gonna be a difficult thing, but it seems to me that if we can come up with reasonable restrictions, reasonable regulations in how people interact on the Internet, that is something that the Supreme Court and the courts ought to favorably look at. - May 28, 1999 NPR Morning Edition
As tragic as Columbine was, Holder’s reaction to stifle free speech on the internet is nonetheless disturbing. Combine his zeal for what he may consider “reasonable regulations” along with his advocacy for a federal hate crime law(H/T to National Review), and internet users may find themselves in a world of legal woe after the Obama administration takes over in January.

That is true.Android675 wrote:The presidential poll was fun and harmless, but I very strongly urge that we keep politics out of this forum. There are many other forums for that, and this is a place for people with very different views on many things to share one common thing.
I just saw a danger even to this forum in this development.
