So as not to hijack a bunch of threads etc, I figured I'd preempt the first person here receiving their "Eve" DVD by starting a thread where you can discuss, praise, criticise and otherwise, the film

Feel free to also provide a review on IMDB for it if you wish, so that others who may not come across this site can find out more about it.

Please try to avoid spoilers for those who may not have seen it, or hide them in traditional spoiler fashion by warning people and covering them up. Bear in mind that it's a short film, not a feature, which means that spoilers could potentially be more damaging to a first viewing than normal.

I'll answer your questions here too so feel free to ask me about the film or just chat about my robot universe in general. Yes, there will be more to come in the near future.... "Birth" has wrapped and is in post production (see my own forum for a few stills and early DVD cover), and part three is already forming on the page for a shoot next year.

$16.49 USD for 15 minutes. All I know is that the actress is very cute. I'd like to hear more...

A few screenshots might not hurt either.

Well, technically speaking the DVD contains around an hour and a half worth of stuff to watch and listen to (commentaries etc), but yes, the main movie is 15 minutes long the first time you watch it.

As for screenshots, BECAUSE it is a short film, posting screenshots of the best bits would really spoil it for people - I wrestled with this when cutting the trailer (which you can download from my site) and think I came up with a good medium that tantalises but doesn't reveal too much.

Ok, here are some stills from the film that shouldn't give too much away but give you a sense of the style of the film:

As for an NTSC version, the film was shot at 25fps on Super16 stock, so it was designed to be run at that speed and the Dolby Digital soundtrack was recorded with that framerate timing in mind as well. I do have an internal NTSC version but to get it in sync with the audio it was necessary to reconstruct video frames, so it doesn't look as good as the original, aside from which all the extras on the DVD are filmed in PAL as well. Most people today have TVs that can accept both standards so it's not much of an issue these days. Certainly all computers and DVD players can playback the PAL format.

Tara Clark, the actress playing Eve, really was head and shoulders above the others as far as auditions for the role went - she nailed the performance I wanted and then some! You can see her audition footage on the DVD as well as her real life persona in the making of documentary, to see just how different they are!

Tara will be reprising her role in the final part of my robot short film trilogy, and also created the costumes for "Birth", so expect to see much more of her in the future.

Thanks for the kind words Robotman

As far as the audio goes, did you play it on a proper 5.1 surround system or did you play it downconverted to stereo? The reason I ask is that it was professionally mixed for 5.1 in one of Australia's largest sound studios, but I didn't include a straight stereo mix on the DVD as most players downconvert with no problems.

Also, the "showroom" scene as you call it does deliberately play with the audio to make it inaudible - if you have full surround you'll notice it pans around to the left to end up coming from left rear side. On a stereo system this may be incorrectly perceived as being an audio problem when in fact it was a deliberate choice on my part to focus your attention on Eve. Was this where you noticed the problem most by any chance?

A bit of trivia for you - the girl playing the part of the nurse is Gracie Otto, sister of Miranda Otto whom most of you will know from "Lord Of The Rings" as Aeowyn.

Just ordered it up. I want to watch it immediately, but I guess that's because I've been spoiled by living next to twelve DVD stores and by digital downloads. Ah, technology.

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to seeing the product. I'll post my thoughts as soon as I've gotten a chance to watch the entire product (and then I'll ramble, because that's how I am).

Not directly related to "Eve", but I have just been successful in getting a job in Japan and will be heading there to work in the new year!

Whilst the job is teaching English, I do plan on continuing my film making career at the same time, and where better to conclude my robot trilogy than in the land of robotics?!

I have a Red camera on order which should be delivered next year as well, so expect the final part of the trilogy to be stunning visually, technically, artistically, and emotionally.

From there I will be writing a feature length version combining and expanding on the stories raised in the shorts, plus no doubt lots of others (some good idea concepts here which I will try to integrate if they suit the story).

So if anyone has film contacts in Japan (hopefully I'll be posted to the Kanto area) please PM me or just email me via my website.

Oh and for those who've seen "Eve", part three will be a prequel and I will have Tara Clark back in the lead role even if it means flying her to Japan (which she would love!).

Haven't had a chance to comment on this yet. Very nice, very well done on every level. This is definitely up the alley of anyone who likes stories (in this genre) with an emotional component.
