You know, I got all jazzed up when I heard she was doing robot stuff in her concerts and I actually forked over a few bucks for a used DVD of her 2002 "Fever" concert. Here is a very brief review:
Yes, Kylie is indeed into robots, there's no doubt about it. Her show starts with her rising from below the stage encased in a chrome suit of robot armor complete with a visor helmet that leaves the bottom of her face visible. As the song starts the armor opens, piece by piece, and she sings while basically immobilized inside the half-shell that's left of the armor. Eventually she steps out and she does some dance moves clearly designed to look robotic. I give Kylie an A+++ for good intentions.
But unfortunately she only gets a C for execution, for the following reasons:
1. She's actually a really poor dancer who never attempts any moves of any complexity. So her "robot dance" consists of her moving one arm back and forth, elbow locked at an angle and fingers straight. She never really pulls off what I would call great startup / shutdown / robotic motion moves.
2. She is surrounded by dancers in shiny spandex catsuits, often the "zentai" types with closed-face hoods, who dance all over the place but never really act like robots, even when their costumes (all silver with helmets in the opening number) most suggest that they are robots. Most of the time they just look like aliens from outer space or something.
3. Adding a special layer of uneasiness to the proceedings, at least for me, is that you soon realize half the "female" dancers are in fact men, and the other half seem to be women selected for rather masculine bodies and butch facial features. The whole show seemed pretty androgynous and homoerotic to me, which was the same distinct feeling I got when I saw her on Saturday Night Live that one time. Not that there's anything wrong with that (say it with me now!), but to me it's a huge minus.
4. Her music is absolutely dreadful ... does that count?

Thanks for the scoop Keraptis. I don't know if spending money on that would be a good idea, but I've been a fan of the way she looks (not sounds) since the mid 80s. She sure got a purdy mouth!
