Manga: "Doll" by Mitsukazu Mihara

Post by 1001011001 » Thu Jun 17, 2004 4:11 pm

Doll is a relatively new manga graphic novel from TokyoPop. The first of several books, they all feature short stories of Dolls, usually purchased for servant tasks and such, and their owners, and of how they interact with each other. In a sense, the stories remind me of the indie film Robot Stories.

The stories range from an overbearing office manager whose perfectionism leads him to love a doll, to a doctor who wrestles with his conscience as he develops a doll duplicate of his wife suffering from an Alzheimer-like disease.

There is no heavy ASFR type content, and you will not see open panels. But the storytelling is of such a quality that you won't notice the absence of a removed faceplate.

The first two novels are available now and if your local bookstore/comic shop doesn't carry them, you can order it direct fromTokyoPop.

I do hope they continue this series.

I was wondering why the title sounded so familiar.

If my comic doesn't have it the next time I visit them, I'm just going to order book two directly from tokyopop.
