A very good sign. Almost a necessary step, the point when some people start to realize what is really coming together.

Bear in mind the article is referencing extras. It's entirely possible this sort of "action" is relegated to quick moving or out of focus background elements. Not necessarily involving the principal actors.

https://twitter.com/WestworldHBO/status ... 9975421953 Teaser coming up. I'm about 90% sure that HBO is going to destroy the 1973 Westworld that I know and love. I'm not down for any philosophical, ethical, bio androids(?) bullcrap. I want to see some electro-mechanical fembots. Not sure that's what's going to happen here.

Robotman wrote:I'm kind of worried about it too, to be honest. I have a feeling it will be "Frankenstein set in the Old West with violence and gore". I hope I'm wrong, but I can't shake the feeling that this might end up like the Stepford 2005 remake.
Few things could ever be as terrible as that Stepford remake. Except for the remake of LOST IN SPACE.

They debuted a more in-depth sizzle reel at the ATX conference. If you want some spoilery teaser descriptions, just google 'westworld atx footage'
I get the feeling many here are going to be disappointed in the visuals. Still excited it's seeing the light of day, though.

Well, at about 1:29ish, I saw a mechanical hand, so hopefully that alleviates the concerns of the bio-android folks.

One shot replaced with few frames from an orgy scene and "whoever you want" becomes "whoever the fuck you want" - otherwise it's the same.

With all the talk Benioff and Weiss are doing recently about really really wanting to end Game of Thrones in 15 more episodes or less, I imagine the people involved in Westworld are under an immense amount of pressure from HBO Execs wanting them to deliver a hit "genre" show to fill the void GoT will leave once it ends it's planned run in the next two years. Right now, as a large budget Sci-Fi show, it is the closest thing the network has on their upcoming slate that could replace GoT. That being the case, I can easily imagine the show being tweaked to absurdity on it's way to the screen, at the behest of nervous cable network Execs.

Muchacho, thank you for posting that clip. I, too, am holding out some hope for mechanical revelations.
I thought we were friends. How could you do a thing like that? I was just going to fix coffee.

Could mean: "yes, they are robots, but we call them hosts". I know I am being too optimistic about this...

Delos, we have a problem. Frankly, I really don't understand what any of her answer means. If they don't like to use the word robot, then what are they? What does fluid and genderless have to do with being a robot? What is a host? Maybe they (Writers and producers) don't even know what they are (like Stepford Wives 2004). From what I see they are some sort of beings made from white slime. (???) Every time I hear more, I leave with more questions than answers. This might be a great show but not what we are looking for. Like the head Supervisor said in central repair after Daphne malfunctioned, "I don't like it."

I'm willing to wait and see what they're actually doing.
For once, a show that seems to want to get into the weeds with big ideas. Not just zombies, ghosts, and vampires that you can shoot or pray away.
Maybe they'll just make tired old ideas look pretty and sexy, and nothing all that groundbreaking will happen. You know, like Game of Thrones. And the general public will go wild.
And then you'll have a dozen content networks scrambling to make their own sexy robot shows.
Maybe. Maybe not. But being excited to find out is nice.

Kishin wrote:What can you tell me about your character in Westworld, and are there LGBT characters?
Absolutely. It’s based in the future, and it’s going to be much more fluid [sexually], so of course that’s there. My character is a “host.” I think what’s going to be really cool about the ‘hosts,’ because we don’t like to use the word robot, is they would be more fluid and genderless. It’s going to blow people’s minds. The writing impresses me the most, it’s so intricate, deep, an existential nightmare and very much based in reality. It’s set in the future but based on real technology we’re developing now, looking at the state of humanity and where we’re at, what we consider entertainment, and why we’re so attracted to darkness. It’s taking a good, hard look at that.
I don't think genderless means what it sounds like. I think she's referring to the fact that the androids have no taboos about sex with men or women. The actress is bisexual and the article is pretty strongly themed towards that.
I agree with everything Kish says.

From what I've seen so far in the trailers, I'm willing to bet a small fortune on the robots being made of various "near future" tech concepts like 3D printed muscle-skeleetal frames, likely made of organic materials, with emotional responses generated by some form of networked-quantum- computing-thingamabob. Most likely a stylistic decision made to separate the HBO series from it's source material not unlike the Battlestar Galactica reboot did with it's Cylons.

If you watch this again take a look at 1:25. It looks like tech staff is coming to do something with two fembots looking like frozen or malfunctioned... O_O
