With all the talk Benioff and Weiss are doing recently about really really wanting to end Game of Thrones in 15 more episodes or less, I imagine the people involved in Westworld are under an immense amount of pressure from HBO Execs wanting them to deliver a hit "genre" show to fill the void GoT will leave once it ends it's planned run in the next two years. Right now, as a large budget Sci-Fi show, it is the closest thing the network has on their upcoming slate that could replace GoT. That being the case, I can easily imagine the show being tweaked to absurdity on it's way to the screen, at the behest of nervous cable network Execs.

Could mean: "yes, they are robots, but we call them hosts". I know I am being too optimistic about this...

Delos, we have a problem. Frankly, I really don't understand what any of her answer means. If they don't like to use the word robot, then what are they? What does fluid and genderless have to do with being a robot? What is a host? Maybe they (Writers and producers) don't even know what they are (like Stepford Wives 2004). From what I see they are some sort of beings made from white slime. (???) Every time I hear more, I leave with more questions than answers. This might be a great show but not what we are looking for. Like the head Supervisor said in central repair after Daphne malfunctioned, "I don't like it."

What can you tell me about your character in Westworld, and are there LGBT characters?

Absolutely. It’s based in the future, and it’s going to be much more fluid [sexually], so of course that’s there. My character is a “host.” I think what’s going to be really cool about the ‘hosts,’ because we don’t like to use the word robot, is they would be more fluid and genderless. It’s going to blow people’s minds. The writing impresses me the most, it’s so intricate, deep, an existential nightmare and very much based in reality. It’s set in the future but based on real technology we’re developing now, looking at the state of humanity and where we’re at, what we consider entertainment, and why we’re so attracted to darkness. It’s taking a good, hard look at that.

I don't think genderless means what it sounds like. I think she's referring to the fact that the androids have no taboos about sex with men or women. The actress is bisexual and the article is pretty strongly themed towards that.

From what I've seen so far in the trailers, I'm willing to bet a small fortune on the robots being made of various "near future" tech concepts like 3D printed muscle-skeleetal frames, likely made of organic materials, with emotional responses generated by some form of networked-quantum- computing-thingamabob. Most likely a stylistic decision made to separate the HBO series from it's source material not unlike the Battlestar Galactica reboot did with it's Cylons.

I'm still a little uncertain as to what the underlying technology is going to be here. The Da Vincian white liquid skeletons we've seen so far or, what is really clear in this most recent clip, a more basic animatronic like structure covered in rubber? The two would seem to be exclusive and separate. Perhaps there are two different generations of hosts and the skeletons represent new, unproven tech? Curious.

I've read articles about the show where it flat out states that Evan Rachel Wood's gynoid is a first generation Android "host" in the story. This. Combined with the clips we've so far, makes me 99.9% certain that the more mechanical versions are early generation androids and that the 3D printed white skeletons are the iPhone 7 to Dolores' iPod. I'm also quite confident that Dr. Ford's tech race to make the androids more and more lifelike to the point where the line becomes blurry between and android and a human will be an essential part of the plot. Good drama, but maybe not a necessarily awesome thing for us, more "uncanny valley"- mechanical- inclined.

As a side note, it appears HBO will be having a free preview weekend Oct 7-10 on various satellite and cable providers. Might give some of you the chance to see the first two episodes at least.
