Re: Stock images on FembotWiki
I voted yes.
I've started an imgur fembot stock gallery which I will post a link to here but I think it would be preferable to have a single pool of stock. This means we could all go to the same place to look for that hard to find control panel or circuit board instead of keeping track of every manip artist's personal collection (if they make it available).
The Wiki might not be the place for this, I remember a threat a while back about uploading .pst files to the FTP which seems a good idea too (I will... I will...) Perhaps the Wiki gallery should be preserved as an archive of finished images?
One thing I do agree on limiting - I think base images for manipulation (ie porn rather than component stock) are not really required. It is not that hard to find fit looking women pictured on the net and a gallery of 'manip this' pictures would quickly become huge...
Edited to add: I do appreciate the links people post to suitable images - they are well worth pointing out for the greater good - I just don't think we need an archive of them.
My 2 pence!

If it helps artists, let's do it.

Re: Stock images on FembotWiki
I think doing that would be going one step deeper with copyrights infrigement. Most of the time, we don't give credits to the autor of the original pictures we are manipping, and now we want to host their original art on a sexualy oriented website without asking permission first?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Fembot wiki is not a .org, it's a .com, so we are running after trouble regarding this mix of netiquette and copyrights.
Instead, how about hosting a dedicated folder on a personnal FTP server?

Re: Stock images on FembotWiki
The .com vs. .org has no legal ramifications.
We don't need to give credit, not by American law. Our manipulations fall under the legally protected definition of parody, and they are non-commercial.
As to netiquette, I don't know where you get your definition. I've never seen a manipulation site like Onlythebestfakes provide credit for source images.

Re: Stock images on FembotWiki
I voted yes aswell.
I have a couple of HD terminator skull pics (T-x T800) and images of women that would look nice as fembots.
I used the TX skull to make these in the past.

Not to be a dick, but you might want to ask a lawyer about that.Robotman wrote:What Dale said.
FembotWiki isn't a commercial site, despite being on a .com domain. There are no ads on FembotWiki, and there are and will never be any kind of revenue per view setup there. All the content on FW is and shall always remain freely available to view. With no financial motive at all, it can not be said that we are profiting from these images.
<IANAL>
If I recall correctly, making a profit from someone else's work is one thing, but if you're impacting the owner's ability to profit, I think you're liable for any losses they incur. Another facet has to do with granting rights (hence the name, "copyright") which copyright law reserves for the copyright holder. Yeah, parody and satire are "safe" areas for people to play in. Remember too, that the model signed a release which lets the photographer use the image for certain uses–the photographer may be required to defend those rights if an image is used for a purpose other than what was in the release.
</IANAL>
Always safe: hire a model to photograph and have her sign a release, then release the images to the public domain for any use. Or photograph your own artwork / make your own models (physical or virtual) and release the images to the public domain for any use.
Probably safe: stuff you find on Wikimedia, assuming you follow the Wikimedia rules.
May your deeds return to you tenfold,

Re: Stock images on FembotWiki
2 questions.
1. Are we adding stock images to the "manip workshop" area?
2. Does it support uploading .psd files? Ive made several cut out parts and pieces that are saved as photoshop files and would be happy to share

Re: Stock images on FembotWiki
If its 7mb and lower then i can use that as a guide line. If any of my stocks are too large i can scale them down or just not upload them. Thanks!

Re: Stock images on FembotWiki
Most of my photoshop stock files are 2 or 3 MB - they are nothing special, just cut-out internals, controls etc and, as Evil Boo says, they can easily be scaled down if too large. I'd be happy to upload a bunch to the Wiki if it could support .pst files.
I should get around to uploading some of them as jpgs isolated on a single colour background as I can do that now and it's nearly as useful to a mannipper...
