Calling it now:

* Some of the guests are also robots
* Complex conspiracy implies robots have been around for a long time
* Guest robots sent by unknown agency, first depicted as vicious, then as benevolent, then as ruthless in pursuit of a "far too important" agenda.
* Early hints of time travel. Depending on how deep HBO gets into the story, this could be handwaved by revealing the whole thing took place in a far distant future, and that many (more) of the principal cast were also robots.
* Just when we get complacent about the rules, a major revelation will be made about something which was previously taken for granted: My money is on "where is Delos actually located?"
* Several episodes in, the plot will have made its way to a global conflict where the fate of humanity hangs in the balance, but it won't be clear exactly what the threat is.
* If the major plot twist is that the robots are actually bio-engineered humans being mind controlled, we are going to burn JJ Abrams in effigy.

If someone wanted to adapt Virus Alert as a multi-volume audiobook available on 8-track cassette, reel-to-reel tape, and MiniDisc, I would still happily go with it. "Passe" isn't really a factor for me.

Now, getting Netflix or Hulu to produce original, exclusive erotic content may be something of a challenge.

A SLEEPER TOO? If this turns out to be the case, and IF this follows a "Game of Thrones"-like gratuitous boob and (mecha)gore quota, then I might just fucking faint while watching this show. I'm getting dizzy just imagining it.

I'm predicting that this series will have LOTS of flashback sequences.

I remember some time ago they were going to do a remake of the 1973 film, with (oh god,) Arnold Schwarzenegger himself planned on playing a role; however the issue at the time was there wasn't a director to tie it to, so the project just kind of sat there.

I'm glad that a television series is being done instead, and by HBO none the less. A show on an unrated channel (Game of Thrones, anybody? ) would not only offer ample opportunities to give fans of the series (for various reasons) everything they've wanted from a story about a park about rogue robots, but also a chance to represent and assess the scientific and thematic properties that made Michael Crichton's work brilliant to begin with; that is, if executed properly.

And Sir Anthony Hopkins too?! This has got to be amazing.

The only problem I have with this series is (as many people have stated) the choice of producer: JJ Abrams.

Now keep in mind that on the big screen, Abrams does a fairly good job at making movies both original and based off appraised works; it's the silver screen where he seems to have the most problems.
Now the real issue here isn't how much plot-loops and twists we'll have to be churned through, or how many flashbacks and backstories we'll have to watch unfold, or even the multitude of lens flares we'll be blinded by:No, the real question I'm wondering about here is :HOW LONG WILL IT LAST?

The caps. are annoying, but that question really is important.

Besides some of his more successful works such as Fringe, Lost, Alias and so forth, think back on the multitude of series he's worked on, and how far there run goes before they are abruptly canned? Along with the fact that just as it seems a series has started and stopped before its even started, he hops onto another series which subsequently suffers the same fate?

Even Almost Human, a sci-fi series which held promising ground, yet weak foundations, didn't last very long. And the show after that, Believe, was gone faster than the blink of an eye.

I just hope that something as profound to both the science-fiction and our community, especially by someone as significant to the science-fiction genre as Crichton, is able to get a fair and decent flow on the networks before it finishes.

Besides, in the matters of seeing any eye-catching ASFR content, we should be in luck with regards to the network it's aired on (Game of Thrones, anybody? )

Titus Welliver ! I loved him in Touch, and the episode of Supernatural where he played War; I even like him in his high-speed internet commercial.

As with the Sara Connor Chronicles, we will be in a prime position to use this show's characters and settings in our own stories. Individually or together, we are a fan fiction community waiting for a franchise to come along, one that is worthy of the hijacking, modifying we will use to take the show to the next level (even though HBO is the next level already for most shows). Slash fiction, Kirk/Spock stories and VHS videotape edits, were the original model. We should Slash Westworld up every way we can dream. Break it to bits, and build whatever using some of the pieces. Just a thought: how about a visit to the park by Jennifer Lawrence, Selena Gomez or Jaime Sommers? Or a special squad of fembots, unknown to those on the show, who are sent into the outside world on missions to convert women and acquire new fembots for the park?

I see many captioned shots from The Big Bang Theory, fake nudes with little erotic or humorous value; but oh, what we could do with stills from the Westworld series! Or, imagine describing your proposed scenario for an audio or video script, referring to scenes or shots or characters or acting as seen in the show. "It's like the scene in episode #, where it starts and you think you know which girl is the technician and which is the robot, but then there's the surprise... ... and in MY story, the difference is it turns out that..." Or, "that moment when her voice stuttered, but her mouth had already stopped moving, and the way her eyes were staring empty past the camera."

I can't wait to see what we might make; and what we may offer in defining what lies beyond the edge Abrams is willing to show us.

Almost one year ago word broke that HBO was planning an adaptation of Michael Crichton’s “Westworld” from Bad Robot’s J.J. Abrams and Jonah Nolan. Now, TVLine reports that six more have joined the cast of the film, including Jeffrey Wright (“Boardwalk Empire”), Rodrigo Santoro (“LOST”), Shannon Woodward (“Raising Hope”), Ingrid Bolso Berdal (Hercules), Angela Sarafyan (The Good Guys) and Simon Quarterman (The Devil Inside). The site reports the actors will play the following characters:

Wright — Bernard Lowe: The brilliant and quixotic head of the park’s Programming Division, Bernard’s keen observation of human nature provides him with boundless inspiration for his life’s work: creating artificial people.

Santoro — Harlan Bell: Terrifying and brutal, with a dark sense of humor, Harlan is Westworld’s perennial “Most Wanted” bandit. He subscribes to the theory that the West is a wild place, and the only way to survive is to embrace the role of predator.

Woodward — Elsie King: A sardonic rising star in the Programming division, Elsie is charged with diagnosing the odd quirks of behaviors in the park’s hosts.

Berdal — Armistice: A savage fighter and brutal bandit, her ruthlessness with her victims is surpassed only by her abiding loyalty to her fellow outlaws.

Sarafyan — Clementine Pennyfeather: One of Westworld’s most popular attractions, every aspect of Clementine is perfectly beguiling, by design.

Quarterman — Lee Sizemore: The narrative director of Westworld, his inspired storylines consistently delight or terrify the guests – and his artistic temperament consistently grates on his colleagues.

These six join a cast that already includes Sir Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Robert Ford, the head of the park, and Evan Rachel Wood as Dolores Abernathy, a farm girl who isn’t aware that her existence is part of the park’s program.

HBO has given the planned series a pilot commitment with Nolan directing the pilot and writing alongside his wife (and recently announced Spider-Man spin-off scribe) Lisa Joy.

The original 1973 film, both written and directed by Crichton, takes place in a future amusement park wherein visitors interact with androids in recreations of famous historical environments. When something goes wrong, however, the androids turn deadly.

Re: bumping up the ratings:

I have HBO, and for the Pilot I could run episodes continuously through the t.v. I'm not watching.

I could use two or three of my computers to simultaneously, continuously run the episodes with Streampix. That might choke the FTP, but I'll see how much bandwidth Streampix eats.

If the ratings after the first week are considered a smash hit, then I think I needn't bother with such tricks until ratings dip.

As for the organic - vs - mechanical robots thing...

Hopefully the film industry has realized that every time you create a piece / franchise with robots, then essentially make them organic people, the former fans come running with torches and pitchforks. (thinking the Battlestar and Stepford reboots)

You can't really play with the uncanny valley if they aren't mechanical... and that's where a lot of the interesting material lies in the stories on this very site.
