ASFR Short Film

Post by 33cl33 » Sun Jun 08, 2008 1:54 pm

Hey all...

I've been itching to make a short film with at least one fembot at the center of it... having trouble writing anything I like.

It'll probably take a couple of months once I get it rolling - as I've just opened a restaurant in addition to my little production company & now I'm INSANELY busy.

So - what I'm asking is this - if any of you who've posted stories on here would be willing to let me shoot one of your works - or at least adapt it so I don't have to spend a mountain of cash on a 15-minute short with lots of special fx... and make it R-rated or less, of course... Let me know. I wouldn't use it for financial gain directly - mostly to post online as a demo (more Sci-fi than Softcore) & for all of you to enjoy. Some of my favorite scenarios are ones like in Aquaphobia (though there have been MANY great ones since then on here) and I think would lend themselves to good shorts.

If it goes well / is received well - there may be many to come... And as my significant other is well aware of my activities on this site over the past (mumble) years... I'm not so worried about anonymity these days.

Hell - most people know I'm a little left-of-center anyway ;-)

If you're curious, here's my stuff - www(dot)youtube.com(slash)miproductions

Peace!

PS

Feel free to PM me with any ideas, suggestions, collaborations, etc... I'll notice it before I'll notice replies to this thread, most likely... THANKS

From a practical standpoint, you want a story with relatively few characters, in a small setting. Neither of my stories fit the bill, but you have my permission to try if you like.

I suspect that the stories of BA would probably work best, as many of his stories involve 3 or fewer characters in a domestic setting. Home Service Warrantee, Childminder, Mrs. Allen's Two O'Clock, Ignorance is Bliss, and Jenny would all work well with a small cast in a typical house.

Nybble's Working Late would also be a good bet.

Assuming you get permission from either of the above authors, you still need to address the issue of cast, sound design, and special effects. Try not to use sound effects which are already overused (I can't count the number of times I've heard the Doom Elevator Sound in both amateur and big budget features). Sounds have a size to them: Some sounds don't fit for small, precision made mechanical systems.

Buy or salvage a mannequin. Use latex foam (available at most places that sell theatrical makeup) to blend between the mannequin's skin and your actress's.

Consider your camera angles before shooting. Storyboard if possible. Do a rough rehearsal without effects, then watch it without sound.

Background music is your friend. Silence is your enemy. If your characters dialog is too "echoy", consider overdubbing their lines later.

Above all, bear in mind that I'm just some anonymous whosit with absolutely no technical experience in television, film, or radio. But I've watched a lot of DVD "making of" featurettes.

All of the above story suggestions are spot on for the types of scenarios I'd love to explore... And thanks for the suggestions - tho I have a mountain of Hollywood & enterainment industry experience... There's always something easy to overlook in the process.

As for sound effects - I always do my own foley, recording the actual thing or as close to it as possible. As for servos, motors, etc... it'll be daunting - but I've studied the best sfx work out there & vow to hit the mark!

Thanks for the feedback - keep it coming!

You're welcome to any of my stories that appeal to you (not that I've written any in the last few years, but my old ones are there). I'd even help adapt them if you like. I do have some experience in film production and may be able to offer ideas on how to make things work - but I won't foist them on you unless asked. :-)

Let me know if I can be of any help. PM or email is fine.

You are also welcome to use any of my stories. Unfortunately most of them are quite long or would blow the budget.

If you want heavy plot with less fembot action then "Talk Radio" might work, but if you want a more classical story, then a reworked "The Rental" could do quite nicely. If you remove the sex, and turn the party scene into a small formal dinner, it would probably work. There are no open panels or repairs, and most could be shot in either an office or home.

If you would like a re-write to any specifications you set, just let me know.

Good luck,
General

I can offer some lessons from TROMA Films.... REHEARSE, AND REHEARSE MORE ON LOCATION... you'll be able to block out the film exactly as you SEE it... AND be able to see where PROBLEMS will happen BEFORE shooting ...SO THAT CORRECTIONS will be made without wasting much time or film ... if possible... rehearse on location in full costume.... for the same reason ...pinpoints problems BEFORE shooting.... WHILE SHOOTING... get things like nude scenes and complicated shots done on the first day... your actors will be relieved that the worst is over, and they can concentrate on their characters more.... also, by shooting the 'MONEY SHOTS" first, if these actors become a handful later on... they can be replaced or written out completely for the rest of the story, because you have the nude scenes, or efx scenes with the troublemakers ALREADY IN THE CAN and can pepper the movie with them like the character is STILL in the film, but was fired on day two..... have other folks shoot the same footage that YOU are shooting with DIGITAL CAMCORDERS... in slightly different spots than YOU are shooting in ... if something goes wrong with one of the cameras... you STILL have two shots or perspectives to choose from, and you didn't have to do another TAKE.... also.... after doing the MONEY SHOTS as stated above.... TRY TO SHOOT EVERYTHING ELSE IN SEQUENCE!!! - this way... if there are problems, things can be rewritten or changed during production without stopping for long... also, it keeps the picture FRESHER because there are ALWAYS good or better ideas that crop up during a shoot.... and one can experiment more if most everything is shot in sequence after the tough stuff is done. also... if you're doing latex modeling... or going to do face ripoffs or close ups on a latex model... you might want to invest in a can of ULTRA SLIME ... painted onto a latex model, or whatever... it just gives things that are sculpted a bit of a sheen, and look more realistic.... plus, if the latex is pulled apart in the scene like a FACE OFF SHOT... or decapitated limb, etc ... the stuff kinda stretches like it's rubber cement.... giving the scene a little more gore or realism .... ULTRA SLIME sticks to pretty much ANYTHING, and it's not terribly expensive.... it can be found where THEATRICAL MAKEUP is found. HAPPY FILMING. -- minkwheel

Hell, I'd love to see "Charlie's second-hand angel" as a short film. You're welcome to give that a go. Unfortunately I'm not a fan of porn in the conventional sense, so I wouldn't want it R-rated. Perhaps people here might see that as a bit of a wasted opportunity! But PM me if that sounds a plan.

Yeah - I'm not interested in making something that under-18s couldn't watch either... At least not this time around ;-)

I just meant R as a limit, as in language & limited or simulated/suggested sex... probably no nudity (crafty shots that just skirt nudity, maybe a censored version)

we'll see!

And thank you so much to all the authors offering support - if I get my staff together, we may be able to do a few!

PS - how do I get access to the ftp / file-sharing board? Once these are going - I'm planning on uploading the high-res files for all you guys, and streaming from youtube et al. for the general public

wow, now that i think about it, there aren't many that fit the bill. ^_^! actually i think dollspace's take on "Of wings and toys" would probably be more reasonable to do. Seriously. I can't think of many more that have very little to no nudity in it, and even less disabled gynoids.

.....Keeping the story clean is pretty easy, but then again... I usually write stories that are supposed to be humorous... I guess a STEPFORD MARY cooking segment for THE FOOD NETWORK subbing for Rachel Ray would be YOUTUBE worthy.... she takes things pretty literally and her food usually consists of same sounding items baked in ....like steel cans in CANolis, SIMPLE MALFUNCTIONS in the kitchen like stirring something with her hand while the oven mitt is on.....as the spoon she's supposed to be stirring with is held upright in her left hand, ...Malfunctions galore, blank stares and smiles ... Might be fun to see her in action...... but I wouldn't want to slight the community letting them think it was all an insult..... not by a longshot... this would give the asfr fan a few niceties... and the casual viewer a laugh or two ... I can just see Mary beating eggs with her fists now....and shorting out near the end, hearing crew members scream that there's 20 minutes left in the program to fill....... Okay....enough from me. --minkwheel

Thanks for the vote Willo... I'd be glad to see any of my stories on screen if they're suitable.

I've thought of trying a (very) short few films myself and may yet if I find the time. whatever the storyline I look forward to seeing the results.

Hey all!

Still working on this one - don't worry!

I've selected the story I'm adapting for this short... And like I said - plenty of the authors on here have written perfect stories - I'm just looking for something I can make look good without attempting cheesy effects, etc...

And I think the story we're going with should both be relatively easy to adapt and shoot, and still live up to most of our imaginations ;-)

If it goes well, I'd definitely like to make it a theme... or at least do a few fembot-centric pieces.

Thanks again for all the offers - and I'll get back to all of you privately about using anything before I go off casting & shooting ;-)

There'll be a webpage of some sort as things develop...

Peace,

Keeping an eye on this thread.... :)

I've just shot a music video here in Japan featuring a robot called Posy. It should be out in a couple of weeks and although not strictly fembot in nature (given it's a real robot) I'm sure you'll all appreciate it.

Some stills on my website for now. Still writing the final part of my short robot trilogy. It's going to be an amazing wrap on the series when done. No timeline as yet but expect production value of a Hollywood movie....

Cheers,

Paul
