I read a book sometime in the mid 70s that was titled "The complete guide to science fiction in television movies and radio" or something like that.
The book made reference to a short lived BBC television show called "Alpha" about a beautiful female android. It was broadcast sometime in the late 50s or early 60s.
All of the above facts could be totally wrong. The book was a library checkout and it has been thirty years since I read it.
I recently found a BBC radio drama called "Alpha" about a female AI and the priest sent to deal with her/it.
The audio quality isn't good and the story is slow but here's the link if you have an hour to kill.

Re: Alpha
Are you sure that wasn't "A for Andromeda"?

I did find some info from the BBC and the story line does involve aliens with instructions.
If any aliens are monitoring this board, I would be happy to have some detailed plans. I have a band saw, table saw, router, complete set of sockets and wrenches metric and SAE a collection of jewelers tools and a soldering iron
There is a newer book called "Alpha".

The instructions relayed are initially for the construction of a computer. The computer then requires an "interface".
Incidentally, the BBC remade A for Andromeda as a one-off drama (90 minutes?) a couple of years ago as part of a season of programmes on British sci-fi. In the remake, the "interface" is portrayed as biological rather than mechanical.
