Fleshapoids on dvd. The end is near! Yes, I've seen it. I bought a videotape on eBay. The quality was lousy but I figured that was the best I could find. I watched it once and then stuck it back on the shelf. Skip it.

Alien robot babe in War of the Worlds... To borrow a phrase from the 80s, she's "totally tubular"

Tales of Hoffmann is an opera/ballet performance on videotape. The entire tape holds 3 or 4 stories, but the one we're interested in has Moira Shearer as Olympia, the "daughter" of an inventor. Lots of singing, lots of dancing. Robo-bits involve a few wind-up scenes where the inventor makes a twisting motion in the palm of Olympia's hand and she slowly straightens up and gains energy. Olympia cannot actually see, so her motions are controlled by various physical cues. Her "father" guides her around the set by nudges. At one point, while a man is professing his love to Olympia he touches her and she responds with "Yes, yes." Soon after, he touches her differently and she stands up, acts angry and runs away, leaving the man to wonder "What did I say?" In the end Olympia comes apart at the seams, literally, as the inventor and another man responsible for the creation of her eyes fight over ownership.

I had also noticed War of the Worlds season 1 on the store shelves. There is another tv DVD box set i saw for sale & i don't recall anyone mentioning it already.

Space : Above and Beyond season 1 is on sale right now. The great thing about this box set being available is that there is more than one singular scene or one episode containing female androids.

According to information i've checked there should be four episodes that feature female androids. Some of you might know that already but this show was removed from the old version of Noidguy's Master List so new members might not be aware of these specific appearances.

This is a recap of the Space : Above and Beyond episodes with female androids.

1. The Dark Side of the Sun : season 1 episode 4
2. Eyes : season 1 episode 7
3. Choice or Chance : season 1 episode 10
4. Pearly : season 1 episode 19

I have provided plot details for these episodes under my topic - Fembot Film & Tv : Supplementary Items for Master List.

Another one season wonder is being released in a DVD box set early this month. The complete first season for The Flash ( 1990 - 1991 Series ) will be available which includes the 90 minute pilot film in a 6 disc set. The episode of interest is the one titled : Alpha. Clair Stansfield plays the female android named Alpha in this episode. I have never seen this episode but i became aware of it around the time the series originally aired so i have no idea about the fembot content in the show. The following is a synopsis of the female android episode from 1991.

Alpha ( Airdate : May 11, 1991 ) - In a simulation of an assassination, an android named Alpha has been built and programmed to be an expert exterminator. But she cannot shoot the gun, as her programming has been too good. Her ability to make decisions has led her to believe murder is wrong, and has given her an overwhelming desire to live. She knows that the scientists who created her will reprogram her the next day, and since she does not want to become a killer, she escapes the lab. A couple days later, Barry is supposed to go to a club that is raising funds for a charity. Julio, who is running the affair lines up Tina to go with Barry to the Disco Inferno, but when Barry arrives at Star Labs Tina can't go. While at the lab he meets a new employee, the android Alpha, whom everyone thinks is a bit strange, but no one realizes that she isn't human. Arriving at the Disco Inferno alone, he runs into Alpha, who had ducked into the club to avoid some Federal officers following her. Barry asks her to dance, but she ducks out a door when she sees the officers coming after her. Barry chases her, but they are both stopped by Federal officers working for National Scientific Intelligence Agency, the top-secret agency that created Alpha. While Barry turns into the Flash to disarm the men, Alpha escapes, but only after her arm is hit with a bullet. Arriving at Star Labs with Tina, Barry finds the lab's security system disabled, and Alpha inside, her arm dripping blue fluid where she was shot, exposing her android nature. She explains why she ran away, and that she came to Star Labs because the company had done some of her design work. Alpha wants to learn how to disarm her self destruct mechanism - which the Federal officers can detonate within ten miles. As they talk the Federal officers arrive, along with Col. Powers, the ruthless director of the program that created Alpha. While the officers are at the lab Alpha escapes again, leaving Barry to have to locate her again - and figure out a way to keep her alive and out of the hands of the government.

I was waiting & wondering when Newsradio season 3 was coming out on DVD. I should add that Willowisp reported a second fembot related episode within season 3 as well. It was reported last year that an episode called Daydream also features female android content. I was going to be adding that one to my next 10 items under my Fembot Film & Tv topic. In daydream, Joe has a dream on a unbelievably hot day that he turned each of the staffers into androids. Bobbie Brown ( Irene 4395 Droid from the Newsradio Space show ) also appears in the episode The Real Deal but probably not as a robot.

The two Newsradio episodes, and their Fembot-centric bits:

Daydream (Season 3, Episode 7): Joe dreams he's turned all the staff into androids. This involves Dave getting shut down and reprogrammed (panel in the back of Dave's head), followed by everyone bringing Joe a soda. ("I brought you a soda, Joe. I brought you a soda, Joe...") This is a malfunction, so Joe shuts everyone down via remote control, except Matthew, who hasnt' been converted yet, but wants to be. One open panel on Dave, mild malfunction scene involving Beth, Lisa, and Catherine.

Space (Season 3, Episode 24): Newsradio in Space. Irene (Matthew's girlfriend) is an android. Android-like dialogue, and a few sound effects, but that's it. No panels, no malfunctions.

Usually the case involving females. I said a long time ago that the showing of anything at all in a graphic (the opening of or removal of a body part)
way that involves a female body is rather disturbing to people in this "culture".
The the oposite is true when it comes to males as we see graphic depictions of the above and worse all the time without even thinking about it.

Here is some more information on the film : Sins of the Fleshapoids that was mentioned earlier under this topic.

Sins of the Fleshapoids

Film Makers Cooperative, 1965, Color, 45 min.

This film gives new meaning to the word "quickie." A million years in the future, the earth has been nearly devastated by atomic war, reflected in this film by location shooting in the Bronx. Mankind has totally abandoned knowledge and rationality, immersing itself in unbridled sexuality. The surviving robots, always alert to a good thing, have likewise adopted hedonism as a way of life, though are somewhat hampered in their sexual pursuits by design inadequacies, as it were. The robots finally solve this problem after doing away with all the humans, and at the climax of the film one of the robots succeeds in giving birth to a baby robot complete with blinking red and green eyes.

Producer-Director-Photographer-Set Designer : Mike Kuchar. Soundtrack : Bob Cowan, Mike Kuchar. Cast : Bob Cowan, Donna Kerness, George Kuchar, Julius Mittleman, Maren Thomas.

I noticed Creation of the Humanoids is now on DVD as part of a double-feature disc. The other film is War Between the Planets.

I recently purchased a copy of the movie T-Force on DVD. It was released on DVD earlier this year but i wasn't aware of it until i found it on the shelves of a store.

I read an article in the newspaper TV magazine that finally confirms the DVD release of the TV series Get Smart. The Octavia episode called It Takes One To Know One from season two has always been one of my favourite fembot episodes & i'm quite pleased it is going to be available next month. The following article is reprinted from the Starweek magazine that was published here in Toronto, Canada.

DVD Finally Gets Smart

Question : I keep waiting for Get Smart to be released on DVD, but so far, nothing. Will this hilarious gem from the 1960s ever make it to store shelves?

Answer : Beam me up, Scotty, there is no sign of intelligent life out here in Hollywood! Would you believe that no Get Smart episode has been released in any video form so far, but Time-Life / HBO reportedly is busy putting the finishing touches on all the uncut original episodes as they first aired during all five seasons? These units also include funny and insightful commentary by series star Barbara Feldon ( Agent 99 ) and the mad series writers / producers Buck Henry and Mel Brooks. To top it off, never-before-seen footage and silly bloopers are tossed into the package providing Smart fans with more than two hours of useless bonus features. Originally scheduled for a September release date, there was a change of heart recently with a release date set for November 13.
