Batman games

Why are batman games so good? mostly all superhero games suck but batman receives so much love. Batman nes, Batman snes, Arkum Aslymun, etc.. you get the point. why does batman get so such love.

Most DC Games suck because their superheroes are too powerful. There's no fun in playing a Superman game, because Superman is all-powerful. Green Lantern can be defeated by a banana. Aquaman...well, Ecco the Dolphin sucked, so why would I want to play an Aquaman game?

Actually, I must disagree, Spot. Superman being all-powerful actually would be a fun game. A character who can fly around and punch things into the dirt? That's pretty awesome! The only problem though is that where the Hulk can break cars and throw a bad-guy through a building, Superman is a goodie-two-shoes who could destroy enemies in all sorts of amusing ways but can't because his personal ethos means he handles everything with kid gloves. Good for a comic or other non-interactive story, terrible for a game.

Gotta disagree with you there, on so many points.

It's not that the games suck because the heroes are too powerful. It's that the game developers who are given the licenses almost always phone it in. Superman isn't completely all-powerful: In addition to kryptonite, he has a well-documented vulnerability to magic and sorcery. Even without either of those, though, he still has his limits. Doomsday was nearly able to kill Supes just in a super-powered fistfight, no kryptonite or magic involved. Dark Knight Batman may have used the entire Gotham power grid to do it, but he too was able to pummel the big blue boy scout into a comatose state. Outside of boss battles with super-powered baddies, a good Superman game wouldn't be about "Can I survive this fight?" It would be about protecting a world under constant threat.

I've got to assume the Green Lantern/banana thing is referring to the historic weakness to the color yellow, but that's been long since addressed in the lore. A good GL game would be structured like an RPG, with a fresh GL recruit gaining more abilities as their willpower, imagination, and understanding of the ring's powers developed over the course of the game's events. Since GLs are basically space police, the structure of such a game could involve an open universe with multiple sandbox planet environments, allowing the player to revisit each planet at almost any point.

The unwarranted attack on Ecco aside, Aquaman's only solo game was the truly awful "Battle for Atlantis," so it honestly couldn't possibly get worse. From a storytelling perspective, though, Aquaman is essentially a commander of armies. His primary superpower is the ability to communicate with, and direct the actions of, various sea creatures. A good Aquaman game would make use of that. Rather than giving Aquaman legions of goons to brawl with, put him up against insurmountable foes, and populate the environment with all kinds of sea creatures for him to use against them. It should be somewhere between Dynasty Warriors and Full Spectrum Warrior, with the enemy forces so powerful, Aquaman is basically required to use the sea creatures.

It really bothers me when developers don't take the characters' role into consideration when making a game. Superman 64 may have been an awful game, but it's not like Titus was forced to make it about flying through rings with terrible controls because Superman is too powerful otherwise. It was because nothing about it made the slightest bit of sense for Superman to do. It was lazy, nonsensical, and poorly conceived.
