Looking for a story
I'm looking for a story about a man who unexpectedly inherits a fembot from his aunt (I think). They have some fun, but he remains concerned, since he has no idea who programmed her with which instructions. He wants to connect her to his PC to run a diagnostic and read her instruction set, but she is apprehensive. It turns out that she used to be the plaything of his good-for-nothing cousin (but owned by his aunt, who left the android to the protagonist when she died), who used her diagnostic mode to needlessly program instructions into her ROM, where they used space that could not be erased nor upgraded without resetting her system completely. Her owner is quick to understand that instructions can just as well be given verbally, without the need for "hard" programming, and proceeds to re-optimize her instructions.
Any hints regarding title and / or author are greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Re: Looking for a story
It sounds like My First Robot by DB-Story which sadly you can only buy now. It's the one where he gets it from his aunt and she kept getting reprogrammed until the Aunt got it and had her fixed with a couple of commands. In the end he told his friends that he never got the bot delivered.

Usenet would have been the first place I'd have looked as soon as I got home, as I don't have access from my laptop. You saved me the trouble. Thank you, Dale.

The story certainly existed, and has been removed from the web site mentioned in this USENET post.

Re: Looking for a story
By the way, I should warn you all that DB Story has actually taken many of his robot stories and published them for release to the Kindle e-book reader.
You can buy them here:
http://www.amazon.ca/s?_encoding=UTF8&f ... gital-text
(Or use your local link to Amazom.com)

Re: Looking for a story
Actually, I've talked to DB Story a number of times..I asked about this one and I believe he said that even he couldn't locate his copy, so I'll email him to let him know I've got it if he stil needs it. Otherwise, yes, please buy his stories!Gorgo wrote:By the way, I should warn you all that DB Story has actually taken many of his robot stories and published them for release to the Kindle e-book reader.

*sigh* one cannot be lucky all the time, but someone did find a copy of it, so it all worked out. Thank you so much for looking, though!dale coba wrote:The story certainly existed, and has been removed from the web site mentioned in this USENET post.
