Virus Alert: Intermission [Not a story segment]
Ladybots and Gentlemasters, I have a problem. I can't tell if I'm writing porn with a plot, or a plot with porn in it.
I have planned out a remarkably intricate storyline for the Virus Alert saga. One which makes a lot of jumps in point-of-view, story format, and tone. This is not normal for my storytelling. I've got a lot of surprises in store, and a lot of not-so-surprising things with surprising explanations. It's like I've somehow gotten the impression that I'm writing a TV series or something.
One of the threads I need to take care of in the upcoming story requires a completely non-sexual, standalone vignette. It's not long, (Probably about the length of the prose part of Mindless Fun) but it is kind of important to the overall plot.
I can chop that vignette into smaller segments, adding them as cutaway scenes at the beginning or end of upcoming sexytime=true segments, but they would sort of come out of left field with almost no context. If I were reading them, I would be confused by the first couple, then barely pay attention to the next several, then be extremely confused at the resulting events.
On the other hand, I can keep the vignette intact as a single story, but that means I've got a whole sub-chapter with absolutely no sexual events or descriptions. If I were reading that story, I would probably be less inclined to read that section, get confused by the next segment, and lose interest in the series altogether. I'd poke back in from time to time to see if anything was interesting, but now Desmond is traveling through time, and Charlie's a ghost, and Locke's evil, and this sentence stopped making sense four commas ago.
So, here's my question: Which would you prefer?

Re: Virus Alert: Intermission [Not a story segment]
I could go either way - it depends on the overall tone of saga.
How happy should the happy ending be?
There is a status quo in this world, but I naturally want to see that fiendish virus programmer victoriously and permanently steal from the fembots their autonomy. He's my hero, but having him triumph may require some particular narrative choices.
Then you know the full story's tone, and maybe how a break from the naughty bits could work in context with that tone.

The best answer I can give right now: I'm not a "kick the puppy" kind of writer. Interpret that how you will. I've got surprises in store for you.dale coba wrote:I could go either way - it depends on the overall tone of saga.

I say have someone else working to counteract the virus and spare the fembots from a lifetime of slavery (even if one or two of them have to get scrapped in the process). Yes, watching them glitch out or malfunction is fun, but doing so at the cost of their free will and autonomy is something I can't really get behind.

I think you're both going to like how this plays out.DukeNukem 2417 wrote:I say have someone else working to counteract the virus and spare the fembots from a lifetime of slavery (even if one or two of them have to get scrapped in the process). Is their free will and autonomy "real"?DukeNukem 2417 wrote:I say have someone else working to counteract the virus and spare the fembots from a lifetime of slavery (even if one or two of them have to get scrapped in the process). Who writes the Turing test, to sort out the fake A.I.s from the real ones?
I'm not looking to cause repression - rather to dominate non-sentient machines... which I tend to build from upgraded ladies of my own selection, because I'm like a vampire that way.
But then you'd probably even object to a vampire, just doing what's natural and right for a vampire to do.
You're a [something]-ist, aren't you, protecting free will and autonomy like that.
What kind of -ist are you?
A Humanist, in the way you treat robots you believe to have free will?

I don't object to vampires, by the way....dale coba wrote:Is their free will and autonomy "real"?DukeNukem 2417 wrote:I say have someone else working to counteract the virus and spare the fembots from a lifetime of slavery (even if one or two of them have to get scrapped in the process). And as for what "ist" I am......haven't quite figured that part out yet.

All I'm defensively saying is, a vamp must consume many innocents, tortured by the vamp or what they've become. Vamps often need a victim every night - very disruptive.
Stepford gets more hours of game play per each woman whose free will is extinguished - and only simulated suffering (if that's what you're looking for).
