Correcting Typos in Stories
So I was wondering how people felt about typos being corrected in stories?
Specifically, I noticed one in the wiki, and being a wiki, it was tempting for me to just quickly edit the page and be done with it. However, I wanted to pose it to the forum and see what people thought.
The reason I could see with NOT correcting it is that it somewhat violates the author's work and freedom to write what they wanted. And for me the reason to correct it would be to not have that typo detract from the enjoyment of the story.
Obviously, this would not include any kind of intentional typos that are used for effect (like robotic speech or it being in-character to misspell or mispronounce something).

Re: Correcting Typos in Stories
For my story arc, people, feel free to fix typos, wrong grammar, bad wording and even bad style. I'm not a native speaker of english, so I won't find these mistakes by myself. If you had done substantial improvements, it would be nice if you'd drop me a notice how I can return the favor.

I would ask the author first. That's what I did before I re-edited Mirage's stories, and he approved.
The truth is not everyone is good at spelling and grammar, especially with the advent of mobile texting devices where people simply use either shorthand or spellcheck. I just happen to be obsessive when it comes to spelling and grammar.

Re: Correcting Typos in Stories
I feel honored when Spaz and others take their own time to fix all my bad mistake and bad spellings and such. I do feel guilty about it, but my priority is making new material all the time. The faster I can poop them out, the better it is for me. I know the quality might not always be there, but my problem, I got always a gazillion of ideals and story to come out. I don't know the meaning of WRITER'S BLOCK.. Poor me, I know (L).
Thank you to all the people who offers to help out, you guys rock!

Re: Correcting Typos in Stories
Mirage, I know I'm cheeky doing this, but I think all the stories in the wiki archive could profit from a little more formatting and more paper-like looks, like I'd done it for my own story arc. If you don't agree, just revert it. Feedback would be nice in any case.

Re: Correcting Typos in Stories
There's a talk page with any single article. I'd encourage writers to put their works on the wiki on their personal wiki account watch list (just press the tab "watch" on the page). That way, you will be informed if someone corrects typos etc or posts a question about the piece on the talk page.
Oh, and by the way, I found a "story" by Mirage on the Wiki where the spelling errors are intentional. Where not entirely clear these are intentional (e.g. malfunction scenes), it's best to mark them with <!--sic--> or a similar source-only comment so nobody "corrects" them.
