Virus Alert: What I'm Expecting [Not a story segment]
A concern has been raised that I may be overdoing things a bit. I know, Virus Alert skews heavily towards the complex end of the spectrum, and erotic fiction isn't generally noted for its sophistication. Most of the best stories here are under 5,000 words, and rarely stray into any particularly complex territory. We may be a finicky lot when it comes to what actually makes a good erotic fembot story, but an author with a good understanding of the audience's tastes can garner quite a few bravos with a story that takes only five minutes to read. Our engines can be started pretty quickly, and anything beyond the go-juice is, for many of us, surplus to requirements. We don't need the fembot version of War and Peace.
What I'm getting at is, quite simply, is the complexity of Virus Alert's story getting in the way of anyone's enjoyment of it on its... other merits?

I'm not totally clear on how it all ties together yet, but that's not hindering my enjoyment... Indeed, seeing how threads eventually tie together is part of the fun I'm having with it. You're doing fine.

Personally, I started with the first few, but after finding out it was going to be a huge serial, I decided to wait until all the parts were done before reading the rest.
Maybe just post a key or something when you are done.

Pity it's not a print novel. Sounds like you'd probably buy it.Spaz wrote:Personally, I started with the first few, but after finding out it was going to be a huge serial, I decided to wait until all the parts were done before reading the rest.

Yeah, I don't like reading a segment and then waiting a while for the next segment. I usually lose my place in the story while waiting, so I just wait for the whole story to be finished and then I read it all at once.
I've taken the same tact with the V.I.C.I. Diaries...although those I am saving for a rainy day, since they are all long and numerous.
PS: I did like both stories, don't get me wrong.

I'll take that as a compliment.Spaz wrote: I've taken the same tact with the V.I.C.I. Diaries...although those I am saving for a rainy day, since they are all long and numerous.

As for my two cents on the whole Virus Alert thing: I've read every story so far, and despite the fact that the eponymous virus is both an interesting plot element and the sort of thing I wouldn't wish on Vicki's worst enemies, the series as a whole is one of the best bits of literature I've read on this forum in ages.

Elvis Lives. Not in this timeline, but in quite a few others.

In fairness, you may not have a complete picture of exactly what the virus is...DukeNukem 2417 wrote:As for my two cents on the whole Virus Alert thing: I've read every story so far, and despite the fact that the eponymous virus is both an interesting plot element and the sort of thing I wouldn't wish on Vicki's worst enemies, the series as a whole is one of the best bits of literature I've read on this forum in ages.

Re: Virus Alert: What I'm Expecting [Not a story segment]
I'm only replying here because you asked, so please don't take offense at the two things I'm about to type:
1. I'm way too hyperactive to figure out QR codes, passwords, etc. That said, I've read every chapter so far, and there are lots of individual high points, especially the .67 stories. THAT said, I'm not actively (or proactively) going to speculate about the plot of a story you haven't finished writing yet. That seems illogical.
2. The running commentary might be detracting from the overall story for me, and for the most part I'm not reading it. It takes some of the surprise out of being mindfucked if you exclaim beforehand that I'm about to be fucked, or even tell me that 6.17 is going to give me a good thrashing. If you've got an origami unicorn moment, please just surprise us with it.
I'm really not trying to troll; I understand how difficult writing a good story can be, and this is a very good story. I hope you consider my honest thoughts a sign that I'm anxious to find out what comes next.

Re: Virus Alert: What I'm Expecting [Not a story segment]
I have written it all. I just haven't posted it all. The password-protected callingmyshots.zip file is sort of your insurance policy against me saying 'Ha ha, you can't guess the plot because I secretly changed it to avoid your guesses!' By all means, speculate away. I wrote it to be very fertile ground for theorizing.ministrations wrote:I'm only replying here because you asked, so please don't take offense at the two things I'm about to type:

If anyone posts theories, I will engage them in conversation. If anyone asks questions, I will answer them accurately, though the answers might not be quite the information you're looking for.
As far as I can recall, the only times I've mentioned any kind of 'look out for #.##, it's a doozy' comments, I've been referring only to how I believe specific readers will react to the sexual content of an upcoming episode. I have made frequent veiled comments about upcoming episodes, but phrased them in such a way that their relevance would only be evident in retrospect.ministrations wrote:2. It's a fair point, though, and I probably have made reference to upcoming events in a particular season. I'll try to keep myself more in check, though. Sometimes my hints on where to find the hidden things are in the story intros. You're probably not missing any breadcrumbs if you skip the'not a story segment' posts, though.
Good lord, you must visit some pretty unforgiving forums to worry that your feedback might be mistaken for trolling. The above points are extremely valid concerns, and I would be remiss not to take them into consideration.ministrations wrote:I'm really not trying to troll; I understand how difficult writing a good story can be, and this is a very good story.
