Thoughts, folks? That first shot in this video makes me at least somewhat hopeful, and the director of this one did give us the T-X back in Terminator 3...

It's certainly an interesting concept. The idea that you can simply operate a robotic "you" by remote - no doubt more attractive and with certain physical advantages - from the comfort of your own home would surely appeal to a lot of people.
I mean, just look at this message board, or at Second Life. We create an online avatar, then go off and do whatever we want. We can RP or write almost whatever pops into our heads, because at the end of the day, you can just switch off the computer, and unless you've done something illegal or stupid, there are hardly any consequences.
Of course, I doubt so many people would really be able to afford surrogates like the ones in this movie. If that premise ever did come true, though, it would give "couch potato" a whole new meaning!
Looks like the film will feature plenty of sexy fembots, and a whole friggin' lot of malfunctions.
Cool beans!

Yes yes yes yes yes yes!
Be good! Don't suck! Be good! Don't suck!
I'm super-excited for this, especially if it means the return of Bruce Willis to movies that aren't awful. It's a bit touchy, because this is from the moron who brought us U-571 and Terminator 3, but I'm amped. I mean, did anyone else see that moment where Rosamund Pike gets her robot face smashed in? Holy shit!

Do you mean the remake of Westworld that's been in Development Hell for ages, or a robot movie on the same level of quality as Westworld? >_>
Anyways, the movie looks interesting. It definitely has some ASFR value, to say the least.

I think it's curious that they ran the initial F/X clip backwards from the prequel stuff we saw earlier. It's clear that once the robot's face is put on, she blinks backwards. Odd that they wouldn't fix that ... or maybe they wanted to make it look that much more artificial. I fear it's the former.gyn2010 wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQEJaYWilGQ

I'm trying not to get my hopes too high but when I'm watching trailers and other clips from this movie... Anyway. We got the movie where nearly everybody is a robot. We got the movie where robots are mechanical devices (no liquid metal, wood, whatever...).
I like Bruce Willis. He's perfect for hollywood-type-of-movies-with-lot-of-shooting-and-stuff.
Please notice the funny part. Bruce (one made of flesh) is bald and his surrogate looks exactly like him but got funny hair. On the other hand, why good-looking people (his wife's surrogate is also an exact copy as we can see in the trailer) need surrogates?

Saw the trailer in front of T4 tonight (save your money, watch T2 instead) ... and 2:15 in the trailer should arouse the ASFR "shutdown" crowd.gyn2010 wrote:HD Version if you like:

Not to derail the topic, but I'd rather not see Westworld be remade. It would be neat to see a remake, if only for the ASFR potential, but the movie is such a classic that remaking it would feel, I don't know...wrong for me.Kishin wrote:I mean the one that's in development Hell since 2007.
I am still holding out hope for that. I know its silly but I am.
Back to the main topic, though, The Surrogates is based on a comic, right? I may have to check that out. Is its title "The Surrogates" too?

Wasn't the Governator (a.k.a. Arnold Schwarzenegger) attached to that project at one point?Kishin wrote:I mean the one that's in development Hell since 2007.

Elvis Lives. Not in this timeline, but in quite a few others.

Yes, which is a bit odd since Westworld was something of a precursor to Terminator (though maybe that's why they wanted him). If they must remake Westworld, though, I'd rather Arnold not be The Gunslinger. Since Delos prides itself on historical accuracy (granted, it has the same Hollywood history as any movie would, but that's besides the point), they should know most cowboys wouldn't have Austrian accents. >_>DukeNukem 2417 wrote:Wasn't the Governator (a.k.a. Hey, hey, hey! You never heard of Handsome Stranger??? He had an Austrian accent... Apparently, Roland Kickinger might've had something to do with it :0P[/quote]they should know most cowboys wouldn't have Austrian accents. >_>

The Austrian Accent wouldn't have mattered anyway, because either:PsychoKirby wrote:Yes, which is a bit odd since Westworld was something of a precursor to Terminator (though maybe that's why they wanted him). A) The Gunslinger was a non-speaking role in the original Westworld (I think) or, more likely...
B) The producers probably wanted Arnolds appearance in the movie to be "meta-referential":
Yul Brynner famously played a gunslinger in "The Magnificent Seven" and his appearance in Westworld was a nod to that film, so the film-makers might have wanted Arnold's role to be "Schwarzenneger playing a Robot Who Plays the Terminator movie character in a Theme-Park", which would have made them look clever in the eyes of the average moviegoer, at least.
