ASFR ref on... Arrested Development???

Post by Korby » Tue Oct 25, 2005 2:36 am

So I just picked up the second season of Arrested Development on DVD, and noticed something I must have missed when it aired.

In one episode, Buster (the youngest Bluth brother) is despondent after having had his hand bitten off by a seal (yes, a seal) and subsequently replaced by a hook. His mother's housekeeper Lupe comforts him, and the two end up being caught in bed together. This results in the housekeeper being fired.

Lucille (the mother) then buys a Roomba to replace the fired housekeeper. Buster initially seems to fear the Roomba, but soon becomes more and more fascinated by it and...

...wait for it...

... ends up being caught in bed with the Roomba!

(Which prompts him to wave his hook in the air and scream, "What do you expect, Mother? I'm half machine! I'M A MONSTER!!!")

I'm a huge fan of the show, which is probably just about the best-written and -acted comedy on TV at the moment. Having noticed this bit, I'm given to wonder if it's somehow a very oblique nod at ASFR, or jus a coincidence. Either way, the scene is plain hilarious.

(EDIT: Well, holy moley. This is my 200th post. How about that?)

Sorry, just a coincidence ... in the 3rd season, Buster has an artificial wooden hand, which is predictably causing new problems.
