NEW ROBOTECH DVD

Hi Kids....I reported on this a while back, but for those who are new, or just happen to come by this note who are fans of the '85 syndicated series that brought new found attention to ANIME....ROBOTECH....well... I may have a nice bit of news for you.

To celebrate the series' 20th anniversary...a new DIRECT TO VIDEO OAV is being produced to be released around the end of this year... the new chapter chronicles the time between the end of the MOSPEADA saga, and the beginning of Robotech II: THE SENTINELS.... why am I writing about THIS? -- well.... in ROBOTECH II THE SENTINELS, There was a fembot in the series named JANICE EM.... Janice was the new series "singer" who hung around a brooding MINMEI through the only three episodes produced for THE SENTINELS..... anyway... JANICE was to become a soldier and spy robot in the series....and she will appear in the new ROBOTECH OAV with a sleeker design and all that there. Just a HEADS UP for the fans!!! --for those who have never seen Janice...well...she is a metalic fembot not too unlike something Soriyama- ish...she projects a hologram of a human female over her metalic body, and can change this look as she pleases. ---minkwheel

Hmm, seems a little awkward with the hologram. What I mean by that is in the Robotech: Sentinels saga novel (books 1, 2, and 3), Janice Em was a fully realistic gynoid in that she looked human with synthetic skin.

This is an old post, I know, however I am curious to answer the question as to which is correct? The video or the books?

Well....in all honesty....the series layout and episodes came FIRST... only three eps were produced, and the main characters were altered slightly so that Tatsunoko could use the footage in something ELSE in the future... also the characters didn't resemble the MACROSS characters "on the money" so FANS would not expect a SEQUEL to MACROSS...... yes, a few happened SINCE THEN, but at the time of ROBOTECH's popularity, and the production of SENTINELS... there were no talks of Macross sequels in Japan....the original series was riding a crest of popularity by then (by '86)

---The SENTINELS story was taken from the AMERICAN retelling of the three series that make up ROBOTECH... the COMICS and NOVELS were continuations of the American story that was mapped out for the NEW animated series that was never completed.....so to answer your question, after two longwinded paragraphs........ Janice is metalic, and projects her human "skin"....like an all-over suit....designed that way so she can alter her look for her spying duties.....the BOOKS show her in a different light ...just as JANICE in all her fembottery....but they can DO that, because it's a different take on the mapped out storyline...Janice is what the writer SAYS she is for the sake of the story. ---minkwheel
