Heavy Metal Magazine

Post by goldengun009 » Sat Oct 30, 2004 9:47 pm

Hey gang,
Just trying to remember which issues had robots or gynoids for that matter. Did obtain some from FAC by Solo351 way back. Can't know even if new issues have something similar. Any help?

I totally blame Heavy Metal magazine for my interest in this genre. Ever since I found a pile of them in my mom's bedroom (she was an amatuer artist) and thumbed through some of the really 'good' stories, I was hooked. I've collected any issue that interests me over the years and even picked up a copy of the older issues. I even have a mint condition #1 with that awesome cover illustration of a female android bashing the bolts out of a male android. Pure classic.

That's one of the blessings of Heavy Metal's publishers.

Other publishers tend to be more than willing to print on poor paper stock, use poor ink, and pulp leftover stocks and/or refuse to consider reprints except due to extremely popular demand in the same month the issue comes out in.

Heavy Metal has continued to refuse to back down from using paper and ink that maximises color ranges and brings out the most of the artists' original pen and ink work, as well as keep the plates from even their earliest issues around and primed for printing smaller runs for the occasional back-order.

Granted the cost of obtaining a back-order becomes more and more expensive the further back the issue dates (all that preservation of printing plates has a cost!), but when you have the ability to obtain pulp art dating back to the heady 80s for the cost of about $22-30 a copy instead of trolling E-Bay for some pre-marital fanboy's "parting with youthful pursuits" auction, it's something to cheer about.
