While not precisely an 'anime interpretation' of the Fritz Lang movie, there are indeed some similar elements. It reminds me considerably of AI MUX (not based on the movie). Anyway, this is an excellent anime, with a number of well-done characters. One of said characters is, yes, a gynoid. She's painfully cute, really. I don't want to spoil much; you'll have to take my word on Metropolis. (I watched the version with subtitles; if you're using the DVD, the specific selection I used was 'Original Japanese translation'. It seemed reasonably accurate, but then, I wouldn't precisely know.)

It is an entertaining movie, but for gynoid content, it only really gets there close to the end.

On the other hand, it has one of the -best- soundtracks I've heard in a long time.
