Xbox studios is remaking the awesome Swedish Real Humans in the UK with Channel 4 to be released in 2015 in UK and on Xbox in North America.

If it were an American network, I'd he inclined to agree with you, Kishin, but I have ever so slightly more confidence in Channel 4's ability to do this right.

We knew there was talk of this being in the works (http://www.fembotcentral.com/viewtopic. ... ans#p56958) but it's good to see it actually coming to pass. I think it should go without saying that "originality," or the lack thereof, shouldn't be the key concern here. A British remake, necessary or not, is an opportunity to see different actresses and actors filling out the same roles, hopefully in appealing fashion.

And in this case, actually, I would say that it is necessary. Not just because English-speaking audiences are allergic to subtitles, but because this show's Scandinavian style and origins really have made it blindingly obscure outside of Northern Europe (I know of no one, other than myself, who has actually heard of it). This isn't like a fundamentally unnecessary UK-to-USA remake (i.e., "The Office," "Shameless," or even "House of Cards," despite the superiority of the American version): it really is a translation out of a language that's spoken and followed by very few people. Insofar as this brings the story to a much wider audience, it's a win.

I was really, really down on "Almost Human," because that show was consistently horrendous, one of the very worst science fiction series that I'd seen in a while, and certainly the worst on a quality/budget ratio. But if Dorian had been a female? I'd have gritted my teeth and borne out the season, crossing my fingers in hope of a second. As it was we got almost nothing: an early episode that killed the mood with a foul, nonsensical plot, the Gina Carano debacle, and a few "f**k you" teases (the holographic nurse, an out-of-focus automated financial adviser in the background of the collar-bomb episode [blink and you'll miss her], etc.). The UK "Real Humans" would have to go spectacularly, unbelievably wrong to earn the same kind of enmity from me. As it stands, I can't wait to see it.

Indeed I can't wait to see it go spectacularly, unbelievably wrong too!

Regardless of how awful it is, there are some possible perks:
  • More androids that are not pale-skinned, blonde, and blue-eyed. I really liked the home-automaton angle that the first episode brought about, but the uniformity was somewhere between disconcerting and boring.
  • An advancement of special-effects technology.
It's all a gamble for us, too. Maybe we'll get a nice 2-minute scene that makes it all worthwhile. Who knows.
May your deeds return to you tenfold,

William Hurt designing one type of fembot, Anthony Hopkins designing another...it's a good time to be a gynoid aficionado!
