Hopefully the film industry has realized that every time you create a piece / franchise with robots, then essentially make them organic people, the former fans come running with torches and pitchforks. (thinking the Battlestar and Stepford reboots)
You can't really play with the uncanny valley if they aren't mechanical... and that's where a lot of the interesting material lies in the stories on this very site.
It's a lack of understanding of what makes most of us go. They prioritize the slave aspect over the artificial aspect, because they think discussing legal slavery will appeal to a broader audience, and it's cheaper anyway. I think most of us, including definitely myself, could completely lose the slave allegory without affecting our enjoyment of fembot content.
It's all about consistency. The fetish actresses show us all the time how GINOs can look convincing by being consistent. The mainstream productions NEVER seem to get it despite bigger budgets, and I think it's because they're too busy "saying something" to ensure those characters are written correctly.
I also think you can totally play with the uncanny valley with a biological android. Faith Hill in Stepford and Stepford Children/Disturbing Behavior being two relatively bad examples. It can be done. But I agree that that's where the magic lies.
