Anytime Doug.

Hey Ted:

Just a rather niggling question:

What's with all the octagonal shapes that seem to be prevalent in nearly every scene I watched so far?

Have to say... I wasn't expecting to be impressed, but I am.

Not with Number Six as a gynoid... I mean, yeah, she's hot, but in a totally human way; the only way we know she's a machine is she says she is. And anyone who's followed my postings here knows I just don't buy the Frankenstein "machines turn on their creators" premise, no matter where I see it.

But accepting the premise... damn, that's both a good sci-fi movie and a good remake of the original. They kept a lot of the look and feel of the original (and very cleverly explained why it looked that way!) while at the same time giving it a very up-to-date feel. Very nicely done, folks.

Let me wholeheartedly agree with you, ehy.

This was a very impressive piece of work.

Loved Edward James Olmos as Adama. He had that certain grittiness and air of confidence that really set the tone for BSG '03.

I really liked the character changes, as well (female Starbuck, female Boomer)

Damn nice twist at the end, there! I'm rather hoping if it does go to a regular series, that Boomer WON'T actually be a Cylon, but a Human that the Cylons had copied THEIR agent from and were trying to have her take the real Boomer's place.

I especially liked the direct references to BSG '78 in the "museum". I read on Sci-Fi's website that they used some of the original props from BSG '78 in the displays. The special effects were absolutely top-notch, though I grew rather annoyed with the repetitive snap-zooms. That was a nice touch, though. It made the whole thing seem more believable.

Shooting bullets and missiles instead of lasers/phasers and photon torpedoes was a definitely different approach. I suppose you can only take energy-based weapons just so far.

Let's hope this goes to a regular series...and that the higher-ups will listen to the new fan base (bet on it!) and accept fan-written stories.

Doug (still puzzling over the octagons...)

Weren't the snap-zooms a feature of the original series? Or am I thinking of something else? I liked them, anyway. Wouldn't miss them if they were gone, but they worked for me.

And I LOVED the missiles and guns look - ESPECIALLY with the use of decoys and jamming and such. Very plausible.

And is it just me, or does Cmdr. Adama's voice sound a lot like Jeffrey Sinclair's?

You're probably thinking something else, ehy. The snap zooms worked for the mini in making everything seem more realistic, but I feel they got a bit carried away with them, using them in every exterior shot and in the battle scenes. A few would have been nice, but since they're established now, if BSG goes to a series, it would be lacking a lot of the realism if they didn't use them.

Must be just you, because I thought Adama's voice sounded a lot like Edward James Olmos :P

(unless, of course, you're referring to a character he may have played at one point...)
