AMC’s robot drama Humans is immediately engrossing
http://flavorwire.com/524660/amcs-human ... obot-story
“The UK series,” says Pilot Viruet, “benefits by telling smaller, quieter, and more emotional stories that seamlessly weave together to form a bigger and more sensational narrative.” PLUS: There’s a lot of interesting storylines, and it’s a robot chiller for the smartphone era.

Re: AMC's "Humans"
Couple of good moments in episode 3.
And, despite our limitless capacity to shit on whatever media we're given... I think it's great Humans is breaking viewing records in both countries.
It may not be what we all hoped and dreamed it could be, but it sends a message to the metric-driven bankers who run the networks and studios that audiences are interested in stories about robots, ai and humans dealing with them.
The TV and movie landscape this year is a hell of a lot better than the complete lack we had like five years ago.

Re: AMC's "Humans"
I'm glad HBO look a step back on Westworld. It just won't do if they create a product that is behind on the social-sophistication curve compared to Humans. Neither will it do if popular clips4sale of robosmut on-line are more sophisticated than what HBO serves up at their robot sex park.
Anyone looking for free robosmut will quickly find a dozen SFDG videos pirated on Pornotube-like sites. If not cutting-edge, Westworld's illusion would be easily dispelled.

Re: AMC's "Humans"
Episode 3 was actually very good. It's enough to hold my tongue for a few more episodes to see what surprises come out of the detectives and the Anita-Mattie storylines.
Also, I think it's extremely possible that the split between JJ and Nolan on Westworld, if there really is a split, has to do with vision regarding how to treat the robots. Possibly even directly about sex.
JJ, based on Almost Human and a couple of its published scripts, as well as strong implications from Person of Interest, Fringe etc., really seems to think fembots are unredeemably icky and adolescent and not worth his time. (I vote self-hating robophile, but I could be 100% wrong about that.) Anyway, I don't think the Nolans have the same compunction, and the fact that they had a film script but sold to HBO anyway kinda tells me that their vision was pretty hard R to the point where they were worried about having to negotiate with the MPAA.
While I'm not sure that Jonathan Nolan working on another HBO project is the BEST sign, I'm still hopeful that Westworld really becomes the watershed it *could* be.

Re: AMC's "Humans"
Is JJ incapable of producing any work with strong sexuality?
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0009190/?ref_=nv_sr_2
This list says yes - the 17 episodes of Felicity he wrote probably set the high benchmark.
I think I'm coming to the conclusion that JJ is an Asimov-scale incompetent around gender and sexuality.

If anyone have the 3rd episode, as a non-US resident, I would appreciate if you could put it up where you know... Thanks!

Called it, she is a synth.Karel wrote:That remains to be seen. It could be that, as you say, the synths here are just "more emotional" and that's why I'm getting no kind of "I'm a robot" vibe from her... or it could be that we're screwed, given Niska/Flash's physical resemblance to the original Bea. The original walked an almost perfect line: there was something "off" about Bea before the big reveal, but I was still taken aback when she turned out to be a hubot.N6688 wrote:There is a bea and its DI Karen Voss.
They even did the same reveal as they did with Bea.

Re: AMC's "Humans"
Here's hoping she's a little more sympathetic than Bea in this version (which doesn't seem unlikely, seeing all the other ways in which they've softened it); if she is it might be the one saving grace of this series over the Swedish one, where Bea's amazing heel turn nonetheless came at a cost to my natural sympathy towards her.N6688 wrote:Called it, she is a synth.Karel wrote:That remains to be seen. Re: AMC's "Humans"
The show's been renewed for a second season of 8 more episodes:
http://www.amc.com/shows/humans/talk/20 ... 07-31-2015
Despite this season mostly turning out to be pretty boring for this crowd - the general audience certainly seems to dig it. High ratings on Rotten Tomatoes and other places as well.
Although, given how the plot played out, and the complete lack of special effects or high stakes... I can't really imagine what interesting turns more episodes could take... without it becoming a completely different show?

Re: AMC's "Humans"
Does anyone have a good link to watch the Swedish episodes online (with English subtitles)? I watched the English series and did enjoy it, but apparently most everyone else liked the Swedish version much better and I'd love to see how much better this series can get. Plus I'm very happy it's been picked up for another 8 episodes in the States, too.

Re: AMC's "Humans"
Do you FTP, Dollspace? We've got Akta.Manniskor.S01+S02, with English subtitles. The files are located, logically enough, in [Western TV], [2010s].
Ask a moderator for access, if you aren't already a user of the Stepfordworld/Fembot Central FTP archive (0.676 terabytes strong).

Re: AMC's "Humans"
I just watched the first season of the Swedish original again and I've remembered why I had long forgotten it. Typical Swedish thriller, a lot of loose ends and characters turning into complete morons all out of sudden. Uh, and Bea replacing Niska as the psychotic killer robot in the second season serves no purpose but having a psychotic killer robot in the piece.

Do you like or dislike my ongoing story Battlemachine Ayako? Leave a comment on the story's discussion pages on the wiki or in that thread. Thank you!
