Don't worry, I'm sure there will be plenty of male bots as well.

Not me. Needs a fembot lead character.

I can't bear to actually watch Episode 2 (and didn't bother with Ep. 1). I feel like I'd be tricked just as I was by the film "Surrogates": the images I've seen let me create a most excellent story; but that story will be forever ruined by viewing the source material. And so far, nobody has come out and said that Ep. 2 is excellent or worthwhile, so I'll lurk in screen grabs only.

I'm not sure how you were tricked by "Surrogates" but I enjoyed "Almost Human ep 2" more than "Surrogates". Not the best thing I've ever seen but enjoyable.

It's on Dale's FTP if you change your mind.

Can someone tell me if there is anything worthwhile in Ep 3. My computer decided to record the first four seconds and then stop :-x

Episode two was about as good as it gets for TV content lately - aside from Akta Manniskor out of Sweden.

It was all about sexbots, essentially. Though they primarily appear in GINO form (when we see the artificial - it's in skinless form. Kind of gross, but whatever).

I really dig the episode, because it at least shows that the showrunners aren't afraid of approaching the subject matter. Bluntly. And it sets precedent for more exploration in the future. With the ever-increasing sci-fi content of pop culture, I think we'll see more and more of this at least touched upon.

Remember how scarce content used to be? Mostly appearing in shitty b-movies that we had to track down on VHS or catch on late night premium cable reruns?

Ep3 - no fembot content.
Still, better than watching Surrogates.

It doesn't look like there will be any fembot content until episode 5, since there is a cast member listed as a sexbot.

The biggest thing was there was a production shot of a half-completed surrogate woman (pseudo-bra/panties-clothed skin on one side, robot parts on the other) that never made it into the movie. Oh, and that shot of a woman peeling off another's face: all about make-up (seriously?) And rather than taking the plot anywhere interesting, it took the most boring and uninteresting turns to a lackluster finish. Here was a fascinating, erotic world to explore and the film spent all its time on the most milquetoast aspects.

Ok, enough thread hi-jacking ...

Just saw ep 4... OMG, they really trying hard to get watchers bored to death! It was totally cliché from the first to the last second, sadly. Don't be surprised to see the show moved to another place in the time grid soon (and pulled out completely after season 1). :(

There really is nothing good about it; I can't point to a single redeeming feature. Since, at this point, I would take any of the previous variations on this same theme that I've seen over more of this show (or hell, any of the other sci-fi shows that Fox has cancelled over the last two-and-a-half decades) I've actually started hoping that this dies a swift death. For it to somehow survive when shows like "Harsh Realm" and "Firefly" bit the dust would be pitifully unjust!

I think you guys are being too critical.

I think it's a good sci-fi police show, and I really like the dynamic between the two leads...

I guess you're right in some ways. It's better this than nothing. Since there's male bots lovers around here too, I think they're well served with this show. :)

Their scripted, cliched, inorganic (ho!ho! irony) abuse of one another is not a "dynamic," nor is it even pleasant to watch, as it continuously crosses the bounds of propriety, taste, and overall appropriate behaviour; they would have to have been friends for much longer for it to be even remotely realistic. I don't even know what their names are, they're so generic, so I'll just call them Karl urban and "the black guy," with apologies to all other black guys; anyway, the black guy is a c**t, and I'd have kicked him out of the car by now if I were Karl Urban (putting nude pictures of a guy you barely know online? ordering racist live "Japanese food?" which I still can't believe they allowed on network TV, that was like "Temple of Doom" shit).

Except Karl Urban's character is even worse, because despite his horribly written "friendly" banter he is still completely rejecting the idea of friendship with an android ("Great. So we're 'friends' now.")! That's wonderful. Real likable. (I love how the summary execution of an unarmed prisoner isn't even something the show bothers to comment on either, BTW) You know, what I always liked about the other shows like this is that once the human character got around to accepting his partner as a person, he was pretty much around. He might face further challenges to the concept, but he continued to behave in a morally appropriate fashion. Bobby Mann and Eve Edison? Fantastic! David Hume and Ian Favre? Wonderful! These two douchebags? I want them both to die, and I like both actors! I like all the actors in this! The show is making me hate them! It's that bad!

So yeah, content or no content, I want it off the air as quickly as possible, so that it can be banished from people's memories as quickly as possible, so that the next iteration might come by a decade earlier. The longer this goes on, the longer we're going to have to wait for another attempt that might actually be good. Just think: if someone in Hollywood was thinking of doing a U.S. remake of "Akta Manniskor" before this dreck came out, those plans are now off. This thing is killing us.

I don't actually mind the show. It reminds me of a cross between the new Total Recall and a cleaner version of Dredd. I just can't get over the fact that Mackenzie Crook is in it. I keep waiting to see his wooden eye from Pirates of the Caribbean.

Wowzers, I am surprised at the level of dislike for this show. I guess I just don't expect anything on television to be good. I gave up on TV back in 2005-06 when I discovered the world of podcasts and audio books. There is good TV out there but I just don't have time to watch it. People rave about "Breaking bad, Sons of anarchy, Dexter Walking dead etc" but who has the time to plop down in front of the flat screen and kill a few hours? Not me :( A house, two dogs, car, two jobs, a new band and a wife keep me going like a hamster on a wheel. If this post is self absorbed and snobby, it isn't meant to be and I think I'm wandering off topic so I'll shut up now :)

So THAT'S who that guy is! Every time I see hom on Almost Human, I keep thinking "He could've played the Twelfth Doctor, if Peter Capaldi hadn't been cast...."

I think he was Gareth on the original UK The Office, his character was what Dwight Schrute would become on the US version. I really enjoy that guy's work. Haven't watched AH yet but it's cool he's featured.

So here's me joining the party late. Glad someone started the thread,.. I just skimmed over it. Wow. Some "likes" and some "not so much."

I'll admit.. I have a weakness for Karl... and that was BEFORE I spent two weeks on tour with him in Australia,.. but that's another story. And personally I think he got this part from his work on Dredd. Except this time we get to see his pretty face.

I think it natural that it only took them to the second episode to introduce sexbots,.. but,.. although the ladies were lovely,.. where were the Manbots? I guess in the future, it's still not okay for a woman to experience synthetic sex.

And i think the "robocops" are stupid. But,..I guess that's the point, huh? Makes the DRM look alot cooler.
