I love that show, it's too bad they never really resolved the plot though, the last episode was a total mindfuck

It was Gainax, what did you expext? Their whole modus operandi is to build suspense and mystery in the first half of a series, transition to more philosophical topics for most of the second half, the devolve into existential word salad in the final three episodes. All of this is accompanied by beautiful imagery which, at a minimum, inverts the audiences understanding of fundamental concepts within the show, or (as is more often the case) flatly and openly contradicts established facts with a "what is truth?" handwave.

Great show, all the same.

It was Sunrise studios, actually. I'm fairly sure Gainax had nothing to do with Big O. Nice animation here though! I still haven't seen the show all the way through, but I'd like to.
