ARE WE NOT KIDS?-WE ARE DEV2.O !!
It is NO secret that I am a huge fan of the band DEVO.... as are many of the board members here.....I do have some NEWS to report..... some may find it a FUN experiment in musicianship, others may find it BLASPHEMOUS.... well.... here it goes...
on MARCH 17th 2006, DISNEY is releasing a cd AND DVD of kids versions of DEVO songs.....sort of a KIDZBOP for SPUDS... and before everyone starts throwing stuff at me for reporting this..... the project is helmed by Gerald Cassale, co-founder, and bassist for DEVO. ---five talented kids- ages 10-12 (and yes, they play the instruments) get to be the spudboy robots singing and exposing the truth about DE-EVOLUTION in 'DEV2.0 "
sellouts? --not really....it totally goes with DEVO's philosophy of REGRESSION instead of PROgression..... well...it'll be fun to watch the kids jerk around and try to make sense of something that was around before they were born. ---to see a small article about the new project ... hop over to www.clubdevo.com --minkwheel

I am inclined to AGREE there....however, since I am a fan of the band, I owe it to myself and DEVO to check it out.....I never said I was going to LOVE IT... but the project IS helmed by Gerry, so the arrangements and videos ARE not 'someone elses' interpretation.....just a different sound ....and bringing Devo's tunes to a new generation.............. but I totally see a little cheesiness here------bad part about it is, AMERICA GETS ENOUGH CHEESE. ---minkwheel

No no no, this works perfectly. The entire message of Devo was about de-evolution and people getting stupider and the overcommercialization of the world. So every time I hear that Swiffer ad with Whip it on it, I laugh my ass off, because Mark and Gerry are having a ball.
It all started back when whip it appeared on "Chipmunk Punk" back in the 80's when the Chipmunks became popular again. They even had to change the line to "Scratch your mama's back" since the classic children's rhyme was too violent, I guess. Ever since, the boys a Mutato Muska have been gleefully peddling their wares to whoever wishes to buy them.
It's not selling out, it's gold-plated Irony.
Mark's become a great film composer, and he can still squeeze out a few pieces of classic Devo-level fun (Did you all buy The Wipeouters album?) I loved hearing Gut Feeling in The Life Aquatic.

I'm one of the fans that actually 'GETS IT" ....I'll be along for whatever ride Mark, Gerry, and the band decide to take me on, and be in on the gag ...I even dressed in full DEVO gear to bring my nephews out for Halloween . Saw DEVO live this summer right after my birthday, and after the beginning film with General Boy (MARK'S DAD) the band came out and declared the TRUTH about De-evolution, and said 'WE ARE SORRY THAT WE WERE SO RIGHT" ....the show was great, although the drummer cut his hand on some falling stage equipment.....not good, but they did come out and finish what they started, like troopers. -----and yes, i have the WIPEOUTERS album! -----still don't have Gerry's solo effort though. --minkwheel
