Fembots Aplenty in "Exalted: The Autochthonians"

Post by Kriegsaffe No. 9 » Fri Jun 24, 2005 4:27 pm

The corebook for Exalted: The Autochthonians showed up in my local Hastings and, being a game about vat-grown bio-robots, is chockfull of gynoid and robotic material.

The concept: The characters in the game are the Alchemical Exalted, protectors of Autochthon, the dying machine-god/planet in which the Alchemicals live and are made by.

There are five kinds of Alchemicals, divided by what they're made of and which other Exalted type they emulate:

Orichalcum Alchemicals "are constructed of highly burnished brass, gold and orichalcum. Windows of crystal and hardened glass reveal bubbling fluids, spinning gears and sliding pistons driving force and Essence to power [their] implanted artifacts." They resemble Greek "perfect beauties" and are golden in color.

Moonsilver Alchemicals "display smooth, organic curves and look more like they were grown than forged. The overall mien of a [Moonsilver Alchemical] expresses biomechanical grace that is at once as beautiful as it is alien. Of course, given the caste's renowned skill in disguise and misdirection, few ever see a [Moonsilver] in her true visage..." They are silver in color and resemble something akin to the Guyver or Ghost in the Shell.

Jade Alchemicals "favor... an aesthetic of simple functionality over the baroque design of other castes." They "display a veritable kaleidascope of colors, freely mixing the five colors of jade," though some "eschew such clashing excess in favor of one or two complementary hues." They are workers and warriors, and frequently assist lower castes--something like Stepford Wives that can also punch through steel and shoot frikkin' laser beams from their eyes. Colors of jade include red, green, and blue. They are simple in form and a few are even homely.

Starmetal Alchemicals "incorperate a delicate, minimalistic aesthetic to their design" as starmetal is made out of dead gods and thus fairly rare. "Braided or tangled coils of starmetal wires outline conventional alloys in artful filigree whose loops and whorls are vaguely hypnotic to behold." The iconic Starmetal caste is adorable, by the way. They are a darker shade of silver than the Moonsilvers.

Soulsteel Alchemicals "[have a] fondness for Clarity and the dehumanizing isolation imposed by their duties," and "few ... show any restraint in modifying their bodies...." There are two depicted Soulsteel Alchemicals, one a male and intimidating in appearance, the other a pale and heavy-breasted Gothic beauty in ornate black armor.

Unlike the magical Charms of other Exalted, the Alchemicals strap on cybernetic Charms, such as magical energy cannons, power boosters, extra limbs, or other such miscelleny. They have amusingly complex titles: "Limb Extention Armatures," "Hyperdextrous Tentacle Apparatus," "Hundredfold Strafing Methodology," "Parabolic Leap Overcharger Device," and "Thousandfold Courtesean Calculations."

When slain, an Alchemical Exalted melts down into a pool of bio-waste and rediculously expensive rare metals. As they become more powerful, they also become larger, eventually "retiring" as living cities or reincarnating back into adventureable successors.

Art is infuriatingly difficult to find... but nonetheless I'll locate and load up some of the art, if I have to scan it straight out of my copy.

Why is it that Wizards of the Coast posts every piece of DnD art up (not complaining), but White Wolf barely fits in the cover (am complaining)?

http://secure1.white-wolf.com/catalog/p ... cts_id=630 The cover is the best I can muster right now. The aforementioned Starmetal Exalt beaut is in the background, the silver lass But I'll load up some choice images into the Gallery later.

Well damnation... I may have to pick this up for some reference material. I've been playing WinterRose as though she had an orichalcum shell for the last 8 years. Is it d20?

You can reach 30+ dice pretty easily. It's part of the setting's appeal--your characters are doing grossly awesome stuff on a regular basis. Starting characters are on par with 25th-or-so-level Dungeons and Dragons characters.

It's a fun system, but due to its being Old Storyteller, it can get opaque. Edition 2 of Exalted is coming out soon, though, so perhaps it'll get streamlined a little.

Anyhow, I'll scan said images up as soon as I get my scanner back...
